I’m getting a car without a towbar on next so I can’t use my much loved Thule rack. I’m going to have to put them on the roof.
I don’t know why but I just don’t trust ones where you keep both wheels on. I know a lot of people use them no fuss but I won’t buy them again and want the ones where you take the front wheel off.
However I have a slight quandary. Most of my bikes are QR front axle but I have one bike which is 20mm (might be 15mm in the future) so I want one which is QR compatible but can be occasionally used for a through axle.
Can I use the through axle converters you can get for wheel truing stands to convert the fork to QR for the rack? A lot of the bike holders seem to be good at one or the other - reviews suggest the ones that fit everything aren’t that great at one or the other.
20mm hubs are 110mm wide (Vs 100mm for qr and 15mm). Unless your rack 'dropout' is adjustable width (like a truing stand) then it won't fit.
You'll need a fork up adapter or similar.
