Mrs Funk has never been really in to cycling, but wants to give it a go now Funk Jr is getting interested. Bike would only be used for pootling on streets, canal towpath and easy bridleways. I was thinking along the lines of a Charge Grater Mixte and was wondering if the hive mind has any other recommendations. The only stipulations are it must be a step through, able to have a basket attached and be pretty 😂

Cube SL Road (ladies version) is a great hybrid. My wife got one last summer
The 2018 model can be had for about £400

Same counudrum last year and I too narrowed down the search to a Cube. But after a trip to the nearest dealer found the geometry wasn't right for her.

After a few sittings only a cheap Carrera felt right. Found a Ridgeback same dimensions and disc but the spec was also poor. Decided to look for a frame and raid the spares bin, luckily stumbled on what must have ben a donor bike on ebay, no drive train or wheels for peanuts.

Looks a bit like this one but white: https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Ridgeback-Element-Open-Frame-Womens-2018-Hybrid-Sports-Bike_113837.htm

Halfords baskets are fine too.
