She wants a new bike. Will be retiring soon and will have time to do a bit more biking, nothing serious or too far but wants a half decent hybrid, that doesn't look like an old grannies bike.
Any suggestions?

Just got one of these for my mum.

She loves it.
Very well put together for £280. Gret feel and the geomtry makes it handle very nicely.
Nice touches like the handlebar grips and saddle.
