Currently watching a bike on a well known auction website and it’s looking promising to go for a decent price

Bike is for collection only, Seller doesn’t want to post it even if I arrange the courier as he can’t pack it up (understandable)

Working it out, it would take me the best part of a whole day (finding the time is an issue here) and much more expense than the bike would be worth to collect it myself (although could be done if I could find the time)

The seller is, however, willing to post if I can find a courier that will take it as it is or pack it up for him

Without looking into it yet, I stop at my first port of call for all things bike, the singletrack hive mind, does such a courier exist?!

Are there any trustworthy companies that collect and deliver bikes without packing or would pack themselves ready for shipping

Any advice / help massively appreciated

Ask if he can take it to his local bike shop and see if they'll do it. Better still, you phone them and find out. Chances are they'll have a spare bike box lying around as well.

Unfortunately I had asked that also, it was another no from the seller

A mate did this with, I think, Anyvan. There was an option to say it's unboxed iirc. He checked with a couple of quoters and they said they wrap with blankets etc as necessary. I don't remember the exact details but I think that's the gist. I can try and find out form him if he remembers.

@cromolyolly that’d be great if you could find out, google searching has, so far, yielding very little in the way of decent results

Onwards to a google search for anyvan…

I’m sure it’s worth it in some respects but just had a quote from anyvan, a tad too high for me,

Thinking I might have to suck it up and make the day trip…

Paisley freight seem to be a lot more pocket friendly (by over £150) cannot get a quote or book until I have a collection address (need to win the thing first) but certainly looks a lot more promising so Thankyou again for the suggestion

Paisley freight can supply a box but the seller still has to box it up iirc, they won’t just take a bike.

@tomhoward I did just see that they can supply boxes etc left me wondering if they do it or the sender has to (assuming the sender would have to)

All their helplines etc are closed at the minute so couldn’t speak with them, thanks for the confirmation

Paisley Freight, iirc, rock up, leave a box, you box, they come back the next day and pick it up.

Mate got quotes from Anyvan and Shipley. Both started high (like over £200 for under 100 miles). Eventually got down to about £40. He seems to remember there was a place to describe the item and he specified, in all caps, it was a bike not in a box. He confirmed with Anyvan that wasn't a problem. Never followed up with the shiply bidders.

As has been mentioned in here before, ask on here and for a case of brewdog.....

@cromolyolly you might be onto something there, the quote I got from any van was via a live chat rep as it was too late too call, maybe a call in the morning might yield better results

After reading your post above, I sent a message to the seller asking if that is something he would be willing to do, the otherwise polite seller is starting to get busy with the short, sharp answers now so I’m trying not to tick him off too much at this stage

I’m asking all these questions and trying to find all these quotes yet there is still the very real possibility I might not even win the bike when it ends anyway ha ha

Guess it never hurts to be prepared though

I'd try shiply, lots of man and van couriers doing good prices. I've had car seats moved from sheffield to london and scotland for 50 a pop.
