Now eldest is not in halls, we need his stuff insured properly.

Posh computer.

Posh bike.

Interesting area of Edinburgh.

Anyone got experience or suggestions of good places to start?

Have you tried adding it to your household insurance?

Was my first thought, if still available

Change household insurer if the current cover for stoodents is mediocre. Perhaps tell your son the posh bike is not insurable in a shared house just to minimize any opportunities for an opportunist theft!

I might need to change insurer.

Currently with Aviva, who do cover stoodents, however speaking to them yesterday they told me the cover is much reduced. Someone is due to call or email me today as the call centre person was struggling to find the policy statement on it...But for our main home and toys, Aviva is ace.

Put it this way, would you want to insure a student in a shared house given the likely activities? 😂

Typically there's a lower limit on cover (in £) and they will only be insured for certain things happening. One thing he won't be insured for is open theft - in other words there has to be force or violence used when nicking his stuff.

You can usually insure bikes and what not but it'll be full of "must be locked to something that cannot be moved" exclusions.

Laptops were always an issue as so many were taken from uni libraries when students left them on a desk and went for a skinny mocha choca latte.

The "student specific" insurers / brokers of old were - frankly - shit.
