Online shops sell some pretty good stuff. Also places that specialize (see what I did there 😉) in other types of bike stuff, like tyres and parts, quite often also sell clothes.

Seriously though, Wiggle (www.wiggle.co.uk) is a good place to start.

If money is tight and you get hot easily don't bother with MTB specific clothing. Cheap lightweight fast-wicking t-shirts from wherever has them on sale, sometimes mountain wharehouse, sometimes decathlon. Shorts same again. Stand up more if your bum get sore!

Well I’d make sure I got decent padded shorts. I’ve not liked ones with padding built into a baggy short - I wear road lycra shorts underneath mtb outer shorts. DHB ones are pretty good on a budget and I’ve read that Decathlon shorts are good.

On the top half I just wear Fox tech t shirts / I’ve always waited to find them on sale for like £20. Never paid more then that.

Gloves - I like 100% ones. Cognitos for spring and summer / Briskers for autumn and winter. Don’t buy endura gloves - the quality is hit and miss. The last few pairs have disintegrated in short order so I avoid now.

Good question.

Anything that doesn't look like a CEO's wet dream/spunk splash and pretend green shish!

Every ****er out there seems to have a fox top for some reason. Bigger the logo the better.

I like Ground Effect, it's not cheap but it lasts. I've gone off Endura due to sizing and longevity issues, which is a real shame as they're fairly local to me.

Jeans and shorts with a bit of flex in them. Most modern jeans/shorts have about 5% stretchy in them.
Now if I'm going for an hour's blast round the woods I don't really bother with getting charged into my bike gear.
