A picture tells a thousand words. If anyone is heading off on a plane with their bike soon can you please take a few photos as you fill up your bike bags for some sneaky hints for us first timers as to fitting it all in and protecting it etc with any lessons learnt.

Thanks for your input.

Worth a trip to your LBS to see how a bike is boxed up for delivery, IMO. Ask them nicely and they'll give you a box, as well as the additional packing bits (Hub spacers, etc)

I recommend these things:
[img] [/img]
BBB Fork Grip / BBB Chain Grip

You can buy them as a set (front & rear), they come with brake pad spacers too. Stops your pistons from pumping out, stiffens the rear triangle, and somehow saves the rear mech. I take the rear mech off and cable tie it to the chain stay.

1) Drink beer (this stops you worying about it too much)
2) remove stem, rear mech, pedals, seatpost, disk rotors and wheels
3) mumify in bubblewrap or pipe lagging, this doesnt really ovver any protection but makes you feel better and makes it easier to hide other 'stuff' under the bike if the weight limit is high enough.
4) cram everything in, some bags work best with the frame diagonal between the wheels, others the other way.

cheaper option to Milkie's suggestion is to just use a couple of bits of plastic tubing (small conduit type stuff) cut to the right length and use the QRs/maxels from the wheels your taking. Quick, cheap, easy and works a treat

I know this is going to sound a dumb question...where are the wheels in the bike bag pics above? ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Think I still have my frame spacer for the rear. Was going to use the front axle in the fork with something covering it.

The bags we use are clam shell design, so the wheels are in the lid with a section of foam covering them.

I have a CRC bag with 2 wheel bags - do you just jam these in the main bag?
