Hey all,

Flying out next month to watch the tour.

Need a bike bag, or should I try and blag it in a suitcase?

anyway, does anywhere offer the loan of a bike bag for a short period (unlikely I know) failing that, if a STW member is happy enough to loan my theirs I'll happily pay them..

cheers

Always gone round the back of Halfords and got a bike box. Protect frame with foam pipe insulation and homemade wood splints / braces.

thanks all, afraid I'm a bit far from there cyclistm. cheers though.

Been thinking about the cardboard thing, just a bit concerned about the lack of protection...it's carrying mainly carbon components, my road bike.

I've got a Teepee bag you can have for 25 quid, if that's any good.

Yes. Snapped chain stay.

Carbon road bikes in soft bags are asking for damage, I'd not risk it again without a hard case.

I've seen my mates use soft bags for mountain bikes and they ended up with bent bits. I've used a cardboard box for my mountain bike and been ok.

Oky doke. Cheers Mikkel will give them a call tomorrow.

Thinking about it then, and hearing that crickey I'll opt for a hard case I reckon. So rubbish that people can't rely on stuff not being damaged ๐Ÿ™

@ jamesco, I'm in Nottingham pal ๐Ÿ™‚

You're also not far from Bikeboxalan (google it) in Sheffield who also does a hire service for hard case boxes.

On the flipside, I've used nothing but a soft bag for my mountain bike and never (touch wood) had a problem. It's all about protection - if you get a bike box as well as a bag, you can use the base of the box to give the bag some shape, and other bits of cardboard to stiffen it up and so on.
