[Closed] bigger rotors or new brakes

Got a pair of shimano deore m525 160mm hydraulic disc brakes on my specialized enduro at the moment. Mainly ride all mountain/xc/trail, fairly varied.

Would it be worth the cost of getting adapters and 180mm rotors and would i notice a big enough improvement or should i just upgrade the lot with new brakes? Nothing really wrong with what i have at the moment but keeping options open for the next upgrade...

Oh and any suggestions on which brakes also appreciated

SLX brakes with 180mm rotors will blow your mind!
Really it depends on your budget but you will see/feel a massive difference

would have to be post to post mount to fit the same caliper.

have heard xt / xtr are pretty darn good. Also Formula the one are supposed to be awesome but rather pricey.

What if you get some 180mm SLX discs and run them with your current brakes (somebody confirm they are compatable) it will improve things for now then maybe get some SLX brakes to go with later.

I'd probably upgrade the brakes to SLX and sell your current brakes. Switch to a 180mm front disc too.

Any discs will work providing you have the right adapters. Only exceptions are some of the floating discs which have rivets which can hit some calipers.

Bigger disks always feel better. New brakes always feel better too. Thats a tough one. I'd think about the long term and work toward it.

Also the old brakes are old. New are under warranty. But some old Shimanos are probably the most reliable never die things out there (recent ones aren't- certainly '10 / '11).

I'm not really helping am I?

Post to post will need an adapter for the bigger sizes so that's not a worry - Superstar have them cheapish.

Nothing wrong with 525 brakes. My colleague runs a set and has just downsized from a 203mm front rotor to a 180mm. Admittedly, the 203mm rotor was very much overkill, but that brake was as powerful as any I've ever tried, regardless of brand, number of cylinders or size of rotor. I'd say get the 180mm rotor and stick with what is a perfectly good brake, until such time as it actually needs replacing - potentially many years if you look after it.
