I don't normally do this sort of public adulation gig, but I just wanted to say thanks to the guys at 18 Bikes in Hope for saving my butt today. Halfway through a 50-mile plus Peak loop and my right-hand pedal simply wouldn't let me clip out - totally trashed to the point where I'd worn holes in the pedal body, adjuster screw stripped etc. Already toppled over twice as a result.

Anyway, popped into 18 Bikes, with no money, looked vaguely pathetic and hopeful and they very kindly fitted and let me ride away with a pair of new XT Trail pedals after taking a few contact details and with the promise that I'd ring tomorrow with card details.

And I got a free sherbert fountain thing too, though they've changed since I were a lad. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks. Great shop, nice people.

That's excellent service and very trusting of them. Why can't all bike shops be that good?!

you really should as we wouldn't know how or where good/bad places are.

And the best things is, you don't even have to bother ringing them up tomorrow and paying - free pedals! 😉

Sorted me out ages ago with a rear mech hanger in a similar situation (mid ride, no money etc..) although I had bought the bike from them, they actually took took it off a demo bike that wasn't hired out as they had none in stock.

it's just somehow not quite right that the sherbert fountain now comes in a plastic tube!

Why would you go on a ride with no money / credit cards. Aside from being self sufficient in the event of having an issue I'd refer to have my wallet on me than locked in the car.

As an aside I made a point of going into the shop on my trip to the Peaks and spent a little money, very helpful guys and we need to keep supporting these businesses.

Yes, it comes in a plastic tube... just wrong.

Why would you go on a ride with no money / credit cards. Aside from being self sufficient in the event of having an issue I'd refer to have my wallet on me than locked in the car.

Well, I was carrying cash, but I didn't anticipate having to buy a new set of pedals mid-ride, which was a bit stupid of me, I know. And I rode from my front door, so there wasn't a car to leave my wallet in. Mostly I carry a mobile phone and a tenner and it's been quite adequate for the last 20 years or so... but yes, you're right, I was uneblievably stupid and it was only thanks to the luminous kindness of 18 Bikes that I not still lying on top of Cut Gate right now with my bike permanently welded to my right foot. 😉

ps: Pedals now paid for, unfortunately my flight to Mexico was postponed by a sherbet fountain on the runway, so I had little option.

Took £10 as always but spent it on a brew and a snack and hadn't had a hanger issue before so wasn't carrying a spare, which I do now.

Oh and I'm quite self sufficient thanks, I could have easily ss the bike to get me round/home, but 18Bikes were just down the road.

Nice bunch, only charged me a donation to Edale MR for removing a rear cassette. 😀
