what a superb event & wonderful, hard working people behind it all.
thanks soooo much from all the family, we all loved it to bits and will be back again (again).
if you have kids, you most go, if you don't have kids work on it, or go anyway its
great fun 🙂
Flipping awesome weekend. Loved every minute of it as did my wife. Will be booking for next year as sson as possible. Just a shame we have to wait a whole year for the best event on the calendar.
As above was fantastic great weather great people great venue 😀
Fantastic event! One that a lot of other organisers could learn from. Will definetlly be back next year 🙂 thanks to everyone that made it such a great weekend.
Still here chilling on the camp site with a cold one and a fire in the Bbq bucket. Weather was stunning and the cider was cold and crisp. Cracking weekend as always.
sad i missed it, glad you all enjoyed it...... 8)
So good to see all the kids trying so hard in their respective races yet it being relaxed enough that there's not floods of tears if they don't win - wish I could say the same about my efforts in the Open.
To echo the above comments - myself, AND the wife and kid had a whale of a time!
I think the xc course is a fantastic one - really good use of the grounds 🙂
Great company (from those I know and strangers met at the festival) as always, and Nick keeping the spirit alive!!
And....as promised....I wore the mankini 😉
Does anyone know where we can see the Avon Tyrell photographs that were taken? Unfortunately I missed my lad giving the most surprised look as he won his balance bike!!!
DrP
P.S. I got chatting to a bloke on the start line about his sweet Explosiv and my Hei Hei. His wife had a Singletrack top on so if he sees this I'd love to see a couple of pictures of the bike, it was lovely.
That be mr Poddy....

Not so sure He'd oblige on that one....

Another fab BBB. Back to some good music again as well this year - really enjoyed The Provokers.

Also - A huge "Thank you" to the kind family/child who gave my Son his prize of a spider-man helmet (as his head was too big!!). He loves it, and that kind of generosity really sums up the ethos of the BBB!!

That was a friend of mine's son at his first BBB; I'll pass on your thanks 😀
DrP...
You look better in that photo than you do from behind on the starting line. 😯
Well done everyone behind the Big Bike Bash, that was an excellent weekend. It has really grown into an impressive and unique event. I can't think of any other event in the UK that encourages so many kids to get on their bikes, you put British Cycling to shame.
My only compliant was that it was all over far too soon. The kids want to go back next weekend.
When do the tickets go on sale for BBB 2013?
A few pictures of the lake jump:
Great weekend!
Didn't have the camera with me much, but took a few at the lake, maybe you can spot yourself if you did it. I know DrP will recognise himself despite being upside down 🙂

Another BBB virgin here, cracking weekend. Well done all.
Great venue, great atmosphere, good beer. Good music too; The Provokers on Saturday night were really rather good.
I was slightly gutted to have lost my heat of the giant slalom by, quote, "a nostril hair". Curse me and my rigorous nasal grooming 🙁
Oh god, and of course, the Pint to Pint race. That was, erm, 'fun' 😯
traffic was an utter 'mare getting home, but the kids were still so high, they stayed awake all the way home 😯
Loved that kids face when they won the balance bike, then they just took off on it.
My 7yr old lad is desperate to do the lake jump after learning to jump in the mulch pit. We couldn't get him away from it all weekend. He ran up over 40 jumps. Dad was too chicken to do 1.
A few of my pics.....
'Round the shore course!!

Just chillin' innit....

Loving the hay!

Mid 'junior race' - I got an amusing/sad video of him being rear ended by a 10 year old, then bursting into tears 🙁 He just said "why did she do that??". The 'balance bike only' race was much fairer!

Strider and (too small) helmet to be passed on, now he's got his bling Early Rider!
DrP
The 'balance bike only' race was much fairer!
Aye -- well suggested 🙂
Well, I'm still here! (48 hours to go yet!)
Just about all of the stuff is down and packed ready for next year!
Thank you to everyone for being so happy and having so much fun!
When you see us at Mountain Mayhem next year in our sumo suits, you now know why we do it!
Cheers 😀

Thanks for the hard work (although I was quite jealous of your 'cooling' position in the lake!). Particularly impressed that you swept the needles of part of the xc course. And I love your t-shirt!!
THATS MY BOY !
He did great 😀
I have two more photos of him in the air before hitting the water, let me know if you want the hi-res images. My 7 year old almost plucked up the courage to give it ago, I think next year he will be up for it.
Massive thank you yo everyone involved in making it such a awesome weekend, the whole family had a blast.
... when are next years tickets going on sale ?
You have to wait until Number 1 & 2 have got their tickets 😀
SUMO!
Any photos of my boy doing the lake jump would be appreciated, as I only did the video 🙂
SUMO video is ace - but not of me!
Ah, sorry only got those 2 sumos!
Dez,
Wanted to get Charlie a "custom" race number as loads of people seemed to know him by the end of the weekend ! 🙂
Is it the same weekend every year ?
JASON
Yes please. 🙂
Can you ping em over to me, email is in my profile.
I was following you for most of the first lap of the race.... filming with the Go-Pro on my head / helmet (why does that sound so wrong given the context of the above photo !
Once I've done the video I'll pop up a link, should anyone wish to see Dr P's rear ! 😯
Still here and pretty much cleared up now thanks to the staff and volunteers who have worked so hard. Thanks also of course to all for attending and the great comments here. Should know soon how much raised for UK Youth.
Got a few event t-shirts and bottles left, cheap cheap, if anyone missed out let us know
Thanks again all
Avon Tyrell
I'll have a XL shirt if you've got one, and a couple of Kids ones... forgot yo get hold of one at the weekend I was having soo much fun.
no problem, I can't rememeber how much they were supposed to be as Anne's list has been buried in a box somehwere but paypal a donation with a bit for postage to louis at ukyouth dot org and I'll send out tomorrow
cheers
Any medium adult or something for a 12 yr old (x2)?
What an awesome time. Just home after a little mechanical with the bus 🙂
Big thanks to all the organisers, volunteers and attendees - especially Keith, Amanda and Alfie! Oh, and the RAC 😉
My little 5 yr old now wants us to install a ramp in the garden after his lake jump!!
See you again next year!
From blurred memory the t-shirts were £8 for kids and £10 for adults plus £3 postage
Just got in from returning the beer stillage to The South Western Arms near St Denys station. Great beer, tell Ryan you were sent by the BBB.
Off to the bath with a few beers for me now.
I believe all the kids T-shirts are sold out now - I know 'cos I asked... too late 🙁

This is the back of my partner... and thats just from the dark woods!
I think we got carried away this year 😀
Anyway, all put away now so tomorrow I can sit and drink 🙄
2013 will be better... if thats possible!
Ciderinsport - the marking was faultless; don't change that!!!!
DrP
Glad everyone enjoyed it,we are chilling out now on the Thatchers Gold - apart from the barriers and the hay bails its all taken down.Happy there is a vid of me starting the lake jump in my Sumo suit 😀
More photos here : http://www.heart.co.uk/solent/events/going-out/events/big-bike-bash/#big-bike-bash
As above, thanks to everyone for a great time. We'll be down for some more next year.
After dodging the jams on the M25, it was 8:45pm when we got home last night, so the van's still to unload and sort out. 😕
JasonDS, thanks for the good company. That lad of yours'll lead you astray one of these days. 😉
Yeah. Wonderful weekend. I loved it!!
Will be back next year for sure. 🙂
I'll have some pics up at some point too, probably this weekend. I'll post the link here.
I have just checked re. t-shirts: 2 kiddy ones aged 3/4 I found in the box plus a few youth/adult ones S M L and XL, so if anyone wants one, donation plus postage to email link mentioned above
cheers
Hi All
Well what can I say, I think everyone else has put it in words, fantastic weekend again, we WILL be back next year along with our friend and his family who also loved it too (his first time at the BBB), he has been bitten by the BBB bug, till next year happy riding 😀
Hi Everyone,
Really glad everyone had amazing weekend, I loved every second of it!
Needless to say the event wouldn't be the same without all of you lot that turned up, but also to the people behind the scenes that have been beg, borrowing, pleading to get all the prizes and sponsorship that means we can run the bash. Big thanks to Matt as he worked so hard to get the bash going this year and then couldn't make it.
Sorry to you all as well, as I that meant to had to put up with me on the mic this year (someone had to make sure Nick didn't have it all weekend tho, especially Sat am!).
I do have request to make tho, has anyone picked up my lid by mistake? It was left on the stage as I had to dash off on sunday, its a black specialized s works.
Hope to see you all back next year I know I'll be there!
Thanks to everyone for another great weekend,
Casual observations...
Seemed like less adults taking part than in previous years.
Great to see more kids taking part in everything (most can ride/fly better than me)
Lots of non cyclists just chillin out (sitting ducks for Nicks super soaker)
Lots of BBB newbies who were not sure what they were letting themselves in for (all pleasantly suprised I would say)
Death by Clay dip on XC course used to attract large crowds but didn't see anyone this year.
Shoretrax was a great idea, loved the overnight layout change (only saw 2 other people on the sites permanant northshore stuff all weekend)
Zombie seemed to be a popular choice in the face painting tent.
Bar needs more proper Aspalls cider taps (was worth waiting for though)
Bar/Band manager (sorry forgot name) was very funny and sounded more like Jethro than the man himself.
BBB must now be THE family cycle event in the UK, book early for 2013 to avoid disappointment.
Had to get off early so didn't see end of lake jump or prizegiving but this is the link to our

This 🙂
If anyone found a green Tilley hat in their car when they got home, it might be mine. Can you bring it back next year please.
Cheers
Nick

Thanks DrP - that's my little fella!! 🙂
Amazing weekend at the Big Bike Bash! Here is a little edit i put together, feel free to share 🙂 [url=
Jump - Big Bike Bash 2012
fantastic video!
A little bird has been tweeting saying the BBB 2013 will be on for the BH weekend of 23-26 August, timings and format over a longer weekend tbc and details up by Oct
cheers
Nice work with the video there! That's the BBB 😀
I heard a bird tweet that people who came this year would get a secret link to a ticket sales page a month before they went on general sale!
Okay, i made that up but who thinks it is a good idea?

😀
Good for me 🙂
But we want to bring other friends along next year too 🙁
It is a secret link, you may choose to share it with close friends 🙂 🙂 . Since when have I done rules?
As long as I get the link first. (i think thats the only rule) 😀
Dezb - I think this years competition showed your son is number 1 while you are zero!!!
New plates next year? 😉
Always happy to help the regulars
Is August Bank Holiday weekend confirmed 🙁 Clashes with TORQ 12:12. Will be sad to miss it after coming for the last few years
JasonDS - Member
Thanks DrP - that's my little fella!!
He's going to lead you astray, Jason.
😉
Clashes with TORQ 12:12
yep it's unfortunate whatever date we go for it always seems to clash with something like Blenheim, Big Dog etc but it's the only weekend free at AT to do it next year. Feedback seems to suggest it isn't like any other bike event so inevitably you makes your choice etc.
We reckon if we manage the parking and camping better than we currently do, we could probably fit in 100 more people comfortably without losing the fun friendly atmosphere and it will sell out quickly fingers crossed. Be good to see everyone there again
cheers
manage the parking and camping
Thanks for another fab event. Great venue, best band ever (The Provokers), even more friendly if that's possible, and you even booked good weather!!
This (camping) was what I panicked about this year, but in the end there were no problems. Can I suggest you either let people camp where they like (to accommodate family groups - it has worked so far?) or it is specified on booking - ie people tell you on booking they want to be together and you place them. I can tell you now that our 6 (!!) families will be coming again next year and will happily camp in the same place.
There did seem plenty of space still.
The only issue this year, as last year, was the men's toilets in the main shower block. They always seem to smell and they overflowed on Sun morning with raw sewage over the floor. 😯
sorry about the loos, we recognise the issue when it's busy, we are currently fundraising (and have just got planning permssion) to build a new boathouse store/loo/shower block down by the lake where all the rhoddy has been cleared west of the lake jump area. Lets hope we can get it there next year, should do
Just had a chance to go through the photos Muke linked to. Fabulous just fabulous.
A series of pictures that just illustrates how brilliant BIKES are.
..Babies, teenagers, girls, mums, dads, lads... everyone having a brilliant time on bikes.
There's an easy answer to the problem with the loos; enter the Malt Loaf eating competition. You won't need to enter a loo for a good couple of days, I'm only now starting skirt around the edge of "regular" 😯
another BBB review here
nice write-up 🙂
Just unpacked the van and found an S works lid. James if youre out there get in touch so I can get it back to you. Just off to Upton festival so wont be able to respond untill after the bank holiday.
Right we are going to this next year! We were hoping to this year but it clashed with a wedding (turns out I had squits anyway). Looks fab!
IHN
You are doing it wrong!
Chuffed to bits to successfully defend the Malt Loaf Title.
6 bites and boa constrictor style swallow.
The only race I have ever won in my life as far as I can recall
A couple of people have asked for copies of some of my Flickr photos,no prob, they are all free and you can do it yourself.
To download pictures.....Find the picture you require,Click ACTIONS tab on top left corner, click view ALL SIZES, select the size you want and then click Download.
Edit..If you click the Order prints tab it takes you to a Snapfish order page and you can pay them to print the photo for you. That page does have a cancel option to get back out though if you get there by mistake.

Wow.
