going over to snowdonia this week and will probably be able to squeeze a trail centre spin in between some 'proper' mountain biking. which one of these is best? by best i mean technical fun rather than easy flowy stuff. ta.

Did both last week for the first time.

Penmachno was the better trail imo, although i really enjoyed both

Pen Machno has more singletrack. Marin feels like it has a lot of fire road and is pretty much about the last descent. Neither is particularly technical?

Did both in one day last May with lunch stop in Betws y Coed, only did short loop of Penmachno though. I enjoyed the natural feel of Penmachno with long single track sections the most and rode that second.

Hmmm... Marin Trail. Your mileage may very depending on what you're riding.

On a 4" racey hardtail, the Marin trail is thrilling, plus you have THAT sequence that climaxes with a view of Snowdonia. Someone thoughtfully provided a place for people to get stoned and chill out mid ride.

On a 5" travel full suss, the Marin trail isn't going to test your abilities much. You'll suddenly notice the fire road climbs are a bit of a drag too.

On a 6" freeridey type bike, the fire roads go on forever. The technical bits will be over in a flash, but hey, you can still get stoned near the top.

I've ridden this on all three types of bike and it's a case of diminishing returns, sadly.

6 inch forked 33lb hardtail with dual ply tyres and single 34t ring, should be interesting!

Hmmm... A very interesting choice! Unless you're extremely fit you'll probably not get on well with The Marin Trail, unless you have a bifter in your camelbak, in which case you'll love it.
