Bike shop called. So i now know. This will not be cheap...

The tensioner on the crank wasnt done up right. This has gubbed the brand new bearings, possibly the shell as well. All needs replaced. This was the creak. No winners? So I will donate to the air ambulance.

The freehub is almost knackerd, the seal wasn't pressed back in right. I never had it off??

The shock mounting hardware is worn and needs replaced.

The chain (factory supplied?) has too many links and the mech (i haven't touched) not set up right.

So all in its a lot!

So when you said you had checked the cranks and rear hub, you hadn’t.

Did they say if too tight or too loose? Unless it was so loose that the cranks were flapping about, I cant see it doing that much damage.

Tensioner was too loose. I said the bb was checked and crank was tight. It was!

Just shows, take it to a good bike shop.

Given the bike, I#m gue4ssing that's a hope crankset? From reading stuff on here, there's tight, then there's Hope specified moon-on-a-breaker-bar tight.

Bugger too late. Anyway mate had a creak everything checked not found off to bike shop, nothing.

Riding along the road one day bemoaning the creak I noticed his saddle was doing a weird thing. Creak turned out to be a broken saddle.

[S] I'm going to guess at shock mounting hardware/bushes being slightly worn and twisting under pedaling but not vertical load when you cycle the suspension.[/S]

oh, two pages of posts.

I'm puzzled though op...

You took the cranks off and replaced the bb trying to find and eliminate the creak. You've not tensioned them right when you've put them back and have potentially caused a bigger issue. But you did that after it started creaking no?

The seat collar? On some of my bikes, when grit and dirt gets between it and the seat post, you do get an annoying creaking noise when pedalling or moving about the saddle. Taking the seat post out and cleaning it can solve it. On one bike I have a rubber sleeve to keep dirt out and I have had no recurrence of the creaking.

It was a bike shop who replaced the bearings, which were replaced as the creak really sounded like the bb. They just didnt do it right....

Its a sram crank, i heard lots of horror stories about the hope cranks needing stupid levels of torque!

Shimano really did get it right with the HT2 pinch bolt system. No crazy high torques involved.

Sorry to hear about all those different faults.

So the new BB is at their cost then.

As per nixie, their fault, there responsibility to rectify it.

But, to reiterate, the problem you're now being told is the cause, is a direct result of attempts to fix the problem. The work was done, and the tensioning issue created after the creak started. It cannot be the root cause unless the lbs also time travelled to back before it started creaking to preemptively fix the problem.
