[Closed] Best Place to Buy Magura Pads

I need some new pads for my Magura Martas, pre-2009 so old style ones. So far I've found CRC sells them at £14:

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=323

I was wondering if there was anywhere cheaper, also willing to consider pads from other brands. I heard Goodridge make good pads, but I'm unable to find their pads for the old style Marta.

I was also looking at Superstar but I'm a bit reluctant as despite being cheap as chips I have had their pads squeal to no end on my old brakes and I'm not a big fan of their ethics. Any recommendations?

I always use CRC myself, but if you can get OE pads cheaper, let me know, eh? 🙂

One word of warning - I've had several sets of Maguras and tried Superstar, Fibrax, Discobrakes and 'another make I can't remember' pads.
And none of them are as good, or last as long as Magura OE pads. If I were you I'd not bother with anything else, despite the cost.

I found that my lbs was perfect for this type of thing, great service, very knowledgeable, very professional and very friendly.

Not sure what you mean about their ethics, but I suspect that superstar pads are assembled in the same places that many other brands pads are? Past customer service is another matter. Regardless, I use them in my martas without any squeal issues and at 3 pairs for the price of one magura pair I think you'll struggle to find many others offering better value.

Maybe they are, but they aren't nearly as good as Magura OE. 1/3 of the price maybe, but they only last 1/2 as long and braking power is not even close to OE.
And you know you shouldn't be using sintered pads in Maguras, yes?
🙂

Currently running kevlar pads in my Louises and they seem to be very good - not sure about longevity yet but sharp stopping and quiet.

Search ebay for user bikefridge

In my experience, using the reliable unscientific singletrack brake pad comparison technique of riding them in multiple conditions over varied geology and many months, I certainly haven't noticed the difference 😀

I certainly do and that's why I use the semi-metallic/organic pads. Mind you Magura also specifically say not to use any pads or rotors other than their own, understandable if they're to honour their warranty. However since my brakes were second hand I decided to ignored this in favour of much cheaper alternatives and haven't experienced any problems as yet.

No sintered? I have in the past without problems - why shouldn't I? No mention of them in my manual.

Bakes: Fairy nuff, maybe Martas are a bit different?

I've got 4 sets of Louises (Louise FR, Louise, Louise BAT, Louise Carbon) and thet's just what I found out. I just stump up for OE pads now. I get 8-10 months out of a set, and about half that out of Superstar Organic, and the braking is never as good with them. Superstar sintered have always been fine (If a bit squeeky!) on Shimano Deore/XT though.... 🙂

No mention of them in my manual

It's a fair point, but I have read it somewhere.....

It said in teh stuff ith my Martas only to use Magura organic pads. A condition of teh 5yr leakproof waranty too.

I figured I'd use octopron sintered once the original organic wore out, and stick the worn pads back in if they had to go back under waranty, but the organics are lasting so ridiculously well that I'd now happily stump up for more at full rrp!

Hoping to pick up another set of martas with generous reduction now the new brakes are coming out...

4 sets of Louises as well - must say the kevlar ones above seem to be among the best. Sintered worked ok but could be hellish noisy at times. Didn't seem to damage anything though (that I could see anyway - hope not)!
