Any thoughts or knowledge of good deals around at the moment?
Ta
The Boardman bikes are always good value for money.
I'd guess there are quite a few good deals to be had on 2010 models that the moment. Wiggle had the lower end Colnago, and Evans always stock a fair few CX bikes.

Ta,
Im a 5ft 7 short arse, so the World Cup not in my size, woulda been nice 🙂
moda legatto's are nice, few places have lasts years on offer for 999, do a search i think north hants bikes havea 52 which would suit you. I have the frameset and built up its about 19-20 lbs.
I asked the same question about 4 months ago. Here is the thread.
In the end I bought a croix de fer, it's amazing. I love it.
knocked my commute down from over an hour to just under, it was all the bike!!!
What are the cable brakes like on the croix, how do they compare to wells et up cantilevers or V's?
Cable brakes in general are better in the mud and wet, (true cross weather), than V's. In the dry then they are about even.
I'm not sure about the exact brakes on the Croix, but you are buying a little bit of future proofing as the frame and forks have disk mounts, and all signs point to disks becoming standard on cross bikes within 3 to 5 years.
Just bought a Ridley Xbow for a mate for 800.
He couldn't quite stretch to 1000. If he could then the Boardman and Cube look good vfm.
No cubes left in the world, all sold out in everysize except xl by last december.
Where did you get the Xbow from?
Ta
Id go for the croix de fer, beautiful bike
Racing or commuting?
Big difference in what would be best depending on this
Plenty of Uncle Johns around. Or there were a couple of weeks ago.
Cable disks on the CDF are good, they always stop me in time, rear will lock up but not easily. The front could do with a bigger disk, someone on here has put a 180mm on and apparently it is much better.
The front just seems to get tronger and stronger as you are braking, but doesn't have the initial bite.
I'd just like to thrown the Jake the Snake into the ring as I absolutely adore mine, and they have a very proud following it seems.
Had a Ridley Xbow for a couple of years and ended up using it as a winter road bike. The frame is at stiff as hell and the standard wheels are tough but heavy. Works well with 105 groupo, but the standard brakes leave me cold ... must get round to upgrading them. Overall, the Xbow in proper cross setup would be good for entry level comp but i suggest not beyond that.
If you're still in Whaley, have a look in the Bike Factory, they've got some nice scott 2011 cross bikes in.
I too went for the croix. Love it as its practical yet beautiful 🙂 swapped the speed kings for small block 8s and very happy. As said tho depends if you want it to race cross on or as a fun do it (nearly) all bike.
I opted for this 2011 Scott Comp, same frame as the more expensive Team edition, 999 retail, a quick google search reveals there are some 52cms knocking around.

I spent ages hunting the right size / 'ideal' used CX bargain but in reality it was worth buying new, a local shop did mine for 900 and I've used it for 'cross racing and general winter training. Good luck in the hunt.
Where did you get the Xbow from?
A shop was selling it via ebay. Liphook Cycles I think they are called.
i have a kuota kross in that size wich is still in the bag and never been built, frame forks and seatpost. i would be after around 850 for it though.
blimey look at that 😯
lot of bike.
I brought a Croix De Fer a few weeks back- indeed a buetiful bike.
Although I've only had the chance to do about 50 miles on the road and about 10 miles off road- it's handling seems to be very good.
The only downfalls for me is (Heavy Wieght/the disc breaks are Rubbish and it's not a Tripple chain ring).
All them negatives said- the wieght and non triple chain set can be compensated with FITTNESS and the brakes may need more bedding in.
Again a stunning bike (I've actualy kitted myne out with a pair of Hope Pro II hubs on Mavic A317 rims)...to try and reduce a little weight. If my disc brakes don't improve within a few more miles, I may upgrade them to a pair of Avid BB7s!?
Overall, the CDF gets the Thumbs up from me so far...
