Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of a garage (or shed) so no where to put a vice. I need to do a 50hr service (well over due) on the reverb. Looking at the video it seems it should be possible without a vice. Undo/loosen top collar while still in the frame and use a 11mm spanner (not advised however) to get the lock ring undone. Anyone managed this without a vice or am I going to be swearing a lot?
Cheers
Pretty sure I did mine a couple of years ago without a vice but as with everything on a reverb you need to be very careful. ย They are very sensitive to everything being done exactly by the book. ย I must have watched those videos a hundred times until I got it right!
In my experience you'll be swearing a lot, without a vice.....
You probably can ... you can always use molegrips and a rag and 2 people....
Not sure its worth it though with the current Evans offers ???
It'd better be 50 hours of moving up and down on the reverb, not just 50 hours of sitting on the seat or I'd have to service it every other month.
Or you can just ride it till it breaks (mines going strong untouched in year 3) and then send it off for a service ๐
Ii wouldn't bother. Ride it tillย it stops functioning, thenย send it off to SRAM for a full service, and they'll send you a brand new one. That's how it's worked for me the past two services.
I've never had to use the vice for that bit-I just used 2 spanners with no issues.
The only time I have had to use a vice on my A1/A2 models is on my 30.9ย 125mmย post ย which has anย extended bottom out insert over the shaft that is annoyingly too small in diameter to remove over the inner of the base plate even with it's outer bit removed and prevents lower post from being removed so in this case the inner base plateย has to be also removed by clamping the shaft.
something like this would probably be ok if you're going to do the work in the kitchen?

gave it a crack without a vice and it was no issue. The only issue is that it is pretty dire inside...ok so maybe it just a few hours over its 50hr service shall we say! The bushing is toast. Will def need to replace that.
I'd take the topcap off and check bushing/relube it too as it's bushing is made of same ptfe coating and just as weak as the lower one if you haven't done already.Bit strangeย SRAM don't say to do this on the 50hr service while it's easily accessible.
How much do SRAM charge for a service?
