We're staying at cottages 20 minutes cycle from Beecraigs in the summer.
Has anyone been? I'll be with some fit but not necessarily gung ho family members. Is there good variety, and would a FF helmet be overkill? (I can already predict that boot space will be at a premium)
Also, there was a thread a while back about vicious traps being laid somewhere near Linlithgow - is that the same place?
We've walked around beecraigs a few times as central to meet family etc, noted the trails but not ridden. Seemed like superb places to take your kids for a pootle about, but not much more than that. Deffo not full face territory AFAIK. Unaware of sabotage issues.
It is enjoyable but nothing massively technical - and the tech bits are Ok (says me who doesn't ride them!).
20-minutea climb to the trails so the gung-ho types may be a bit tired before getting to the decent stuff.
The area with traps isn't Beecraigs, but about 5 miles along the canal towards Edinburgh.
Definitely no need for FF helmet. If in the area and needing variety you could add Callendar Estate trails which can be ridden to mostly along the Union canal.
if you want FF stuff then the “shale bings” might be your thing - although that might be where the “traps” were.
