I'm demented trying to get the cartridge bearings out of a Velocity hub. I just cannot get the inner sleeve to one side enough to tap out the bearing at all. Thinking of investing in a bearing puller - anyone got any experience of good ones/ones to avoid? I don't want to go OTT as I don't need a huge range of sizes, and it would be occasional use only. Was thinking of something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hardcastle-5pc-Inner-Bearing-Puller/dp/B00PM18IDS/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1484300937&sr=8-8&keywords=puller+bearing or this one:

I got my Aivee hub serviced at a popular wheelbuilder yesterday. He had one of those puller jobbies (just one of ebay) and i was amazed at how easy it made it! Versus me usually struggling with a screwdriver and hammer.

I say go for it! Seems like a tool that's actually worthwhile. I think I'm gonna get this one (once i've checked the sizes)... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5pc-Inner-Bearing-Puller-Tool-Set-Blind-Hole-Tool-Slide-Hammer-Kit-Pilot-Needle/282044010302?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D40800%26meid%3Deb62bba679744c2ab7a5beac2a7fbfb5%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D262062691773

If they work well, they definitely seem to make the job simpler. That e-bay one is identical to the one that I had in my first link above ๐Ÿ™‚

This one got recommended by a couple people on here:

I got mine in the post yesterday so not tried it yet. Looks pretty much identical to the one posted above just with some lager sizes.

That last link from Jairaj is the same as the second one I linked to. As well as more sizes, it has a heavier hammer which coud simplify things, but the inner race of the bearings I want to get out is 20mm, and the sizes of the collets in that one are 17-20mm and 20-24 mm, I was wondering if one might be too small and one too big, so would be interested to hear where you are thinking of applying yours and how you get on Jairaj - or if anyone has used it on a 200mm diameter inner race, that would be good to know, thanks!

I used a suitably sized rawl bolt. Once locked into the inner race, I used a drift and hammer on the bolt. Worked fine.

for anyone who is interested, I ordered this one:> https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B013K8IBZY/ref=pd_luc_rh_sbs_01_01_t_img_lh?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
br />
and the 17-20mm collet was fine for 20mm bearing, thought it needed to be screwed up to the limit. Took 2 mins to get wheel bearings out - the right tool for a job is always so satisfying!

With hindsight, this was the only way to do it. The inner sleeve in the Velocity hub is such a tight fit it doesn't have any potential to be moved sideways far enough to tap out the bearings.
