What hubs do these have? It looks like I need a special tool, that DT Swiss want SIXTY QUID for FFS. Fortunately there seem to be knock-offs available, but is there more than one type?

Looks like a ratchet hub. There are alternative tools available which are arguably better than the dt one. Get the one that you can put straight onto a 1/2" ratchet. One less thing to slip.

It is most likely a 350 based ratchet hub.

If your wheel is relatively recent it will have a label like this on it.

DT ID sticker

If you go to the product support bit of the DT site you can scan this on your phone and it will give you all the correct specs and spares, conversion options etc for your wheel.

Ta. I took a punt on a knock-off eBay tool and it fits.

It's bloody tight though, I can't get the bastard off. I'll have to install my bench vice and hope that's enough. I didn't get the tool that goes into my 1/2" breaker bar...

The one I did in a hub that wasn't in a wheel I had to bolt to the top a 500kg of pizza oven crate to stop in moving (using the disc mounts). Then apply a big breaker bar with a makeshift extension!
