In the past few months I've had to install a few bottom brackets none of which were pressfit.
But I've needed 5 FIVE!!!!!! different tools.
Old fashioned Shimano (happy days)
Newer road Shimano (smaller adapter OK)
DUB stupid size
DUB but not same as above, come on this is silly
Ceramicspeed 16tooth t47 taking the piss.

Bring back pressfit it is so much easier.

Feel your pain brother.

This is an area where 'Standards 'innovation' has been a curse.

Ironically, there's nothing wrong with the design of pressfit. Issues were always down to manufacturing tolerance and misalignment.

Must be decades since I last used my campag fixed cup, lock ring and pin spanners on a bottom bracket.

I feel your pain, but that's (one reason) why both the new frames I've bought in the past year have British threaded BB shells, and why I only ever buy Shimano cranks.

I still need 4 different BB tools to cover my various bikes 😀

And then you've got to attach the bloody DM chainring as well.

😀

Ebike was easy. Undo 4 bolts rotate chainring, negotiate the crank and pedal, for new one down the same route, job jobbed in under 5 minutes.

It's Mrs 100ths s****y road bike and it's super plush ceramicspeed bearings that are a pain. The ceramicspeeds on my enduro just need normal Shimano sized tool. Just as well they last so long.

Just two tools needed, square taper BB tool, and Shimano hollowtech - even does my FSA MegaExo on one bike.

The old Campag BB tools are only used as a pedal spanner now.

shimano cranks gets around the BB issue but you then run into issues with the bastard chainrings - cmon shimano! i thought you were better than this. whats wrong with the boggo 4 bolt chainring?

whats wrong with the boggo 4 bolt chainring?

Or changing the offset of the chainring for chainline differences, as opposed to The Whole Chainset...muppets

I have bought then sold race face BB and hope BB tools after using them to remove a BB from a second hand frame and putting Shimano bbs on.

One tool and one spare BB in the house.

One pub/ road bike was cheaper to get a press fit to Shimano BB adapter, BB and tiagra chainset than a new pair of chainrings for an FSA crank set.

One press fit BB in carbon road bike.it has clip on mudguards if the weather is wet. The BB is spinning beautifully. The chainrings are setting worn...

Totally agree. It was all bad enough already and then GRX made it even worse.

I bought a Sunrace square taper crankset for the commuter last week for exactly these reasons. Cheapo chainring; could've trimmed the chainline with spacers but did it by using a 110mm BB rather than 113mm. Of course, I then needed to dust off the old square taper tool, massive spanner and gert big allen key...

that reminds me - i`ve got to go buy some washers to fix the chainline on my new shitmano boost cranks (that didnt actually fit on my boost specific frame). but not hte 10mm id ones as that would be too easy - the chainring bolts on from teh inside so that are smaller id. PITA! probably need longer bolts too thinking about it...

in the words of The Streets 'it was supposed to be so easy...'
