Does anyone have experience of both of these short and long-term? Would rather spend a bit more and get the BB7s if they are worth it in terms of reliability? How does braking power compare? Thinking about running them on my new Surly Ogre.....when the frame arrives Mon 🙂
I've got both ... I was drawn to the Chutes because both pads move (rather than pushing the disc over) but in reality it doesn't seem to make much difference. The BB7s actually seem more powerful and the operation feels much nicer. The quality and finish of the Chutes isn't quite as nice either.
I'm not saying the Chutes aren't a good cable operated brake, they are it's just that the Avids are better and IMO worth the extra cash. HTH
Cheers still s8tannorm, very helpful wee review. In the long run, I would rather opt for quality so I think the BB7s are the way forward. Sanny just threw the spanner in the works too, as I didn't realise rose bikes were still selling xt brakes for pretty much the same price. Nice to have a dilemma 🙂
I've got both as well, but I haven't fitted the Gussets. The quality does not appear to be as good as the Avids.
I like the look of their opposed movement - no bending the disk like the Avid, but the Avids work so well that I probably won't fit the Gussets until I build another bike.
