Hi all,

New frame is PF30. I've installed a wheels manufacturing bb, and gone to install the cranks, but they are a really tight fit.

Haven't taken a mallet to them yet...just wondering if it's normal?

No way I will be able to install them by hand.

Cranks are pre 2012 SRAM Red, for what its worth (CX bike)

Fitted my first pf30 (wheels manufacturing also) to my new carbon frame about a week ago and they pushed in by hand

Are you trying to fit sram GX-P cranks using a Converter-BB? Only I'm wondering if you are using a shimano HOllowtech adapter bb which has inner bearing diameter for a 24mm spindle when you need the sram version that is 24/22?
Ignore me if your cranks are BB-30

My set up was the same on my stumpjumper but it free'd up after a ride, obviously depends just how tight we are talking. That was with the wheels mfg angular contact bb and sram XO cranks

Problem is not sticky bearings, trouble is it's as if the spindle is to big for the bearings. It seems unlikely.

I wondered about putting the cranks in the freezer first, but I will have to get them off one day...

Are the Wheels Manufacturing PF30's any good?

I'm due a new BB in the bike and can't decide what to go for.

My BB30 crankset normally takes a little tap from a soft hammer when installing it. Only a little tap mind, I can sometimes push it with the flat of my palm. If it dropped in easy I'd be concerned about tolerance to be honest so am glad it needs a little tap home. Presume you've cleaned the spindle well, and possibly applied a bit of grease to to help it?

I put my crank in with a rubber mallet, first ride there was some resistance from the bearings, now it's freed up.

Pretty common if you google

I have only used the wheels ones since giving up on the rubbish SRAM ones in my Carbon Stumpy. They seem ok. They were recommended to me by the lads at Specialized UK who said they were all swapping to those from the rubbish SRAM ones fitted in Specialized bikes. Try one and see, my only advice is that I first fitted the expensive Acb red anodized wheels one and it lasted about 7 months, which after the 1 month thr SRAM one lasted I thought was pretty impressive. I bought one of the less expensive black (non ACB) Wheels one to try as a replacement because On-one were selling them cheap, and so far its lasted just as long as the ACB one, so thats what I'll be sticking in there next time. Provided on-one still have some

Leon same thing happened to me last week when replacing the bb on my supersix - the sram pf30 bearing are set inboard as opposed to the wmfg bb. I have gone back to sram pf30.

Mashiehood - are you saying there's a compatibility issue? Wheels suggest they are compatible...

All, sounds like a tap with a mallet could be in order.

BTW, I did google it, but not very effectively (especially on my phone). Ta for the responses

Thanks for the info.
I'm replacing the SRAM bb in a carbon Epic so hopefully it'll be better than the original one!

A firm tap with a rubber mallet, and in twyve gone. Much better fit than shimano I've had in the past.

Wonder I'd they'll creak...
