Right, bikes been a bit of a pain so started to strip it down. Taking the cranks off to get the pivot bearings off and the driveside BB cup came off with the Axel & crank.
Panic!!
cleaned it up and here is what remains

The BB Cup sits in fine, and when under tension there is no play at all.
Any suggestions on what to do? At present I plan to put it back together and do it up tight and ignore it.......

same happended to me some time ago (on a trek fuel). I just used a BB with a longer thread (RF Deus) and it was fine.

If it does get worse there is a company (can't remember the name just now) who will bore out the frame and weld in a tube with the correct thread.

Doubt if re-tapping's possible as you need something to tap into, if you want it re-threaded then Argos racing cycles can bore and sleeve it for you.(prices on their website)

I had simular situation last week although looks like mine had a little more thread. My problem was I could do the cup up but if it was too tight it would pop loose again which annoying especially with my chain device.

I ended up getting a freeride bottom bracket which has longer thread then used some weird tape stuff which packed out the tread these two combined have allowed me to enjoy my frame for another year at least!

get rid of all the thread and use a press fit BB, probably only available in square taper though
