I'm sure there have been loads of threads but I cant get the search facility to work.

My trusty Camelbak Hawg has finally given up the ghost after years of faithful service. Any recommendations whats good ?

Needs to be big enough for fleece and waterproof, sandwiches, emergency bivvy bag, drinks bottle, tubes, pump, tools etc - so a decent size.

tough material. My bike is on my back for a lot of my riding so counts out wingnut.

2 or 3l  hydration bladder.

Thanks all.

I have an Osprey Viper 9 with a 2.5l bladder that's been really comfy. Not too big, might be too small for you? It's great though. I'm considering getting a Camelbak re-pack waist pack for shorter rides.

I've been pretty impressed by the bargain 12l Scott one I picked up from Start Fitness. There's a 16L one too and have the bonus of a built in D3O back protector.

I posted about this about a week ago, and I'm sure there was another thread about it only yesterday 🙂 .

Have a trip to Go Outdoors, they have plenty of Osprey bags in, both walking and ones specifically for mountain biking, least then you can have a proper look at them, the different sizes, the fit (try a few on to see how comfortable they are) and the different compartments, some have a hand tool wrap that just rolls out from the bag.

I’ve had my Osprey bag for years, it’s totally used and abused with mountain biking on weekends and commuting through the week to work, there’s honestly no sign of wear, no fade, all the zips work well, the stitching still all perfect, I just bung it in the washer with the rest of my clobber too and it comes out like brand new every time.

Mines the older style Viper 9 but I recon you’d perhaps want a slightly bigger one from your description if you are wanting to pack a fleece and waterproof jacket and all the other bits of bobs/lunch for full day ride (if your filling your hydration bladder up) and still have room to fumble about to find stuff without getting it all out.

I can recommend Osprey packs: They are pretty comfy. The size will depend on what you choose to take: I have a Escapist 32 because I used to commute up to Uni and needed the space for books, laptop etc., however, you could go smaller if you want to.

Go outdoors for Osprey, don't rule out Decathlon, the 25 litre pack I hike with is every bit as good, if not even better than the previous Osprey I had, and miles better than the Ergon and Camelbaks I've had....

As someone who hates bags and only wear one when necessary, Osprey Raptor 10 is the best I've found for long rides. 3L bladder, tool compartment at the base which will take a tube as well if you pack it right. Main compartment will then take pump and shock pump in little sleeves, leaving a big hole for sandwiches and coat. Hook on the rear for helmet if you do a lot of walking with your bike. Annoyingly, no rain cover. They do a 14 too which a friend has; may be more suited if you take a fleece and coat and shelter.

I have the Osprey Raptor 14L and would echo all of the recommendations for them.

My favourite bit of cycling kit 🙂

If it were me I'd be looking at Osprey, Evoc and Deuter packs. Having used a few Deuters in the past and finding them nothing but excellent, that's where I'd start.

The better half has an Osprey which she loves, but we had to get rid of the solid reservoir and replace with a Camelbak bladder – she found it incredibly uncomfortable.

Whatever Osprey pack takes your fancy. Go try some on. I have an unhealthy number of them including the escapist which is what I use for all day rides or overnighters.

I'm on my second 27l helium trail from decathlon.  I guess a more expensive pack from Osprey or Evoc might be better but I don't feel the need to spend the extra cash.  I like the shape and the pockets are in useful places.  I only replaced the first one because the elastic bits had gotten a bit baggy but otherwise it is still going strong.

Thanks all, just looked and got an Osprey Raptor 14L from CRC for £70 odd quid. Looks good but can always return if too small.

Thanks for your help guys.
