I have a set of Ayup's that I got direct from Oz a couple of yrs ago (this will be their 3rd winter) - I recall that I hung off for new Cree emitters rather than the original luxeon ones, but beyond that i don't know their output (320 lumens rings a bell). I have the intermediate beam and run as a helmet only setup (Hope's on the bars). I see from their website that the current ones push out 'over 400 lumens' and are now available in a narrow beam pattern. Wondering if anyone has experience of the 2 and whether the newer narrower ones are beefier output and brighter.

I have the bar and helmet set up with the different beam patterns. Helmet is more spot, bar more of a broad beam. Can't say there's a big differnce in brightness, it's just that obviously the spot light gives a more concentrated beam. Don't know which version i have though, i bought them just before Ayup packed up in the UK and went back to Oz (there are now back here again now though).

I seem to recall them being sold as 320 lumens per set (so 640 total). I find them fine for all the riding i do although you can get brighter lights now. As a lightweight bombproof set up though they are pretty hard to beat. 2 other people i ride with use them and everybody has been more than happy with them.

I also have the cree based ay up's. Supposedly the bin number of the cree's are able to put out up to 220 lumens per emitter. The 320 total output is dictated by the driver that is housed in the battery case. Tuned for brightness vs burn time vs heat management. I was hoping that they would bring out a battery/driver that would use the maximum output but the never did. I have considered making a replacement driver for the battery but i'm not too handy with electronics.
