I have an axs mech that just won't shift cleanly in the highest three gears. Much worse going into higher gears but still not great. No amount of micro adjust will sort it. Has to be set very extreme to get clean shifting, and either the highest or lowest gear is not possible. It was working fine before winter but last month or so it is a problem.

It is a hardtail, so b adjust is easy. Derailer hanger is aligned (checked with tool many times). Chain length is about 1/2 a link longer than recommended but that is as close to the 2 link overlap I can get.

Cassette are only about 2000k old and has two chains being alternated. Same issue with both. Mech is only about 500-1000k old.

Anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?

My GX AXS started doing that after I changed the pulleys. I assume the sloppiness in the worn bearings allowed it to shift ok. As soon as tight bearings went in it wouldn’t shift properly. It’s currently with sram for warranty assessment but as I scraped the body of it LBS say it’s unlikely to be replaced. I also had a new RED AXS that wouldn’t shift properly from new. SRAM warrantied that one and the replacement is fine.

Is yours still under warranty?

Check cassette is on tight enough and hasn't worked loose.

Have you oiled the mech pivots? I find if I don't do them every couple of months they can get a bit sluggish...a drop of oil and it sorts it right out again (so I do that every month and don't suffer it now).

Is the mech done up tightly on the frame?

I will oil the pivots and check cassette.

Odd, lost the rest of my reply. Not under warranty. Will see if the cassette is loose and do the pivots.

The jockey wheels are original but I did re pack the bearings with grease. Wonder if that did it?

Not under warranty sadly.

How are doing the micro adjustments? I had similar issues trying to adjust while riding and couldn’t get the changes dialled in.

Turned bike upside down and used the app instead of the shifter to micro adjust and got it perfect in less than a minute.

I am using the app and a bike stand.

Is the Lower cage straight? The top jockey wheel should be parallel to the cassette. I have had similar issues when the back of the cage was bent inwards.

That meant that as the cage rotated, the bit of the jockey wheel the chain was in contact with shifted closer/further from the mech. This offset the shift position going up the cassette. I was able to bend mine back to get shifting going again.
