Off to Aviemore for some snowboarding.

Ski slopes likely to be off-limits due to high winds for at least a day.

Will also take a bike with me - Any good MTB routes or epic road rides? Recommendations for 3-4hrs hard riding would be appreciated (avoiding trudging through snow fields.)

Cheers

Pop into Bothy Bikes on the way to Colyumbridge on the ski road. You can buy all the route maps for around £8 or £9. Well worth it. There are tons of trails. I was up there the other week and went along the Ryvoan trail route (past the Ryvoan bothy) - pretty sweet and we went for a 30-odd mile mission before we even got to this bit so you'll easily be able to use up 4 hours every day for a week on mostly different routes.

Theres a good route from Bothy Bikes up to Loch Einich via the Rothymurchus estate see here for route http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/comms/srv.a4d?f_pg=site_info/route-guides-north-scotland/route-rothiemurchus.htm&f_cardinal=10

YB, not sure you're going to get much showboarding in.

Buy a route map from Bothy Bikes and get some great free advice thrown in - top blokes. Difficult to keep your wallet in your pocket in there - lots of nice kit.

If you want some serious heart/lung workout plus a good singletrack descent go from Bothy Bikes up to the high point on the Lairig Ghru and back down again. Up the road to the caravan site, turn right up the track and follow the signs

Lots of options. As above, Both Bikes have all the info.

Have a look at the Burma Road.

There's a loop from Loch Morlich, over the Sluggan, to Nethy Bridge, then back via Ryvoan. Nice mix of tracks and none of it too high (hence no snow issues).

Loch Einich and back is OK for a couple of hours. Watch for a couple of river crossings, one of which might be a bit impractical if there's a lot of melt.

Lots and lots of other tracks which the BB guys can tell you about.

For a wee road ride, head up Boat of Garten and the Grantown. Remembers, the roads aren't exactly too busy. Stick to the back-roads and it'll be nice and quiet.

Thanks for the info.

Sounds like Bothy Bikes will be the first port of call.

The stream crossings on some routes sound a bit sketchy, prob give them a miss as I'm sh1t at swimming.

Next question- Where can I get a decent beer in Aviemore on tha' neet oot?

All above is good gen, but would also add "Doo Below", Winking Owl and The Cairngorm all good for beers and craik.
If I was off I'd come out for a ride too.

Rather than starting a new thread, i'll hijack this one!

Planning on heading to Aviemore in a few weeks time with Mrs Tyred but not the Tyreds jr. Anyone recommend anywhere nice (but not too expensive) to stay? Don't mind it being a few miles away from Aviemore.

Second Captn Mainwaring's recommendation of the Lairig Ghru descent back towards Aviemore.

Cairngorm Hotel? Nice food, real "pub" downstairs.

Look for the Badaguish XC circuit. It's up near the Badaguish outdoor centre. I had a map somewhere that I found on Google, might find it by searching, I think it was a scan of the ones in Bothy Bikes.
