I have just fitted some new pads for my avid juicy threes. Trouble is they are rubbing and i can`t seem to get the pads wide enough to flow freely. Do they need bleeding at a LBS?
I had this exact problem on some 5's. 'All' I did was empty the system and pull apart the caliper. You can then free up the pistons with some hefty pliers/moles/pipe wrench. Just be careful not to crack the body. Once they are free and everything is clean, rebuild with some new oil and job's a bananas uncle.
Sounds scary but providing you get it back together you can always get the shop to bleed it and you've not spent any more than you would have. Plus, it'll work better than a basic bleed on its own.
My brakes are 5 years old now and this is all I've ever done... twice iirc.
Buy some Shimano's
Sorry to be thick. Is it just a case of stripping back down and trying to widen the pistons again?
1-silicon spray the piston seals.
2-pump them out.
3- clean round pistons
4-use the pad spacer to push them back in.
5-repeat abut 5 times and jobs a goodun. ๐
Have you been for a ride yet? I've always found going for a ride tends to sort out the worst of the rubbing after I've put new pads in my Juicy 5.
Think its sorted and a ride should finish settings.
Thanks all
