Hi all,

I have an Avid Juicy Five brake set I am considering selling and I would like an idea of what it might be worth to those who are interested. They are off my HT which I am thinking of converting into a commuter, so will replace with V-brakes. The set consists of:

Avid Juicy Five brake set - Silver, 2007 (twin bolt bracket model)
Front 185mm Clean sweep G2 Rotor, incl bolts and mount adaptor
Rear 160mm Clean sweep G2 Rotor, incl bolts and mount adaptor
Standard Avid black hoses
Superstar components Sintered Pads F&R (almost new)

Also to potentially include (though may sell separately)
Avid Juicy Bleed Kit - Used, but all parts included, would be sent without fluid
4 Pairs of Superstar Components Kevlar pads - New and unopened
2 sets of Avid caliper mounting bolts

The brakes are in decent cosmetic condition, they do show that they have been well used, but all logos etc can still be read, there are no significant scratches/chips etc.

Rear Brake
Works well after a bleed, though could do with a service I imagine, a little woody feeling and not so progressive.

Front Brake
This works, but is a little intermittent and power is unpredictable. I imagine it will require a full strip down and rebuild, I cleaned the bladder in the lever at the weekend and cleaned the pistons which has made some improvements. I rode last night so will bleed again tonight now it has chance to bed in again after being stripped down, hopefully there will be an improvement. There is some very minor damage to one of the pistons (using the wrong tool on a trailside pad replacement) and there is a crack on the reservoir cap around one of the bolts on the lever.

Rotors
Front and rear have plenty of life left, they aren’t the straightest in the world but nothing a little work won’t sort.

I can post some pictures later if required.

So after my honest appraisal of their condition would any of you have any idea what sort of price I should considering listing them in the classifieds section (With an without listed additional spares)?

Many Thanks

I paid about £60 for a perfect working (not great looking) set of 5s with braided hoses and bleed kit from my mate about a year ago.

Why bother replacing them, surely won't be too heavy for a commuter and at least it'll stop in all conditions?

£60-ish in good nick, but less if it needs work.......

There were so many bikes with Juicys on them, (and people have been trying to get shot of them as well) that they are everywhere now, and that affects the value.

I sold a set in VGC with 200 & 185 rotors for £60 that were less than a year old and I thought I'd done well....

Yeah I understand. They can and have worked really well over the last few years, they just seem to need constant maintenance and its annoying. I admit I probably havent looked after them that well (apart from bleeding every few months) as they always worked, but the lack of attention seems to have caught up over the last few months. A bit of time and a good service would have them right I think and they would be fine for someone who would get better use of them. I just want V's on a commuter, simple and low maintenance for something that is going to be ridden everyday.

You don't want vees then, you want Shimano Deore hydraulics. I've bough 2 VGC sets off here theis year, one for £50, one for £30. That's your best bet.
