Bike shop says DOT 3 or 4 Avid seem to point at Dot 5.1
Confusion rules!!
Any ideas?

4 or 5.1 will be fine. 5.1 has a higher boiling point so should fade less quickly. The 2 fluids are interchangeable. I use 5 in my juicys.

Use either Dot 4 or Dot 5.1.
Don't use Dot 5 as that's different stuff to 5.1 and will wreck the seals.

5 won't wreck the seals, it's DOT rated so is compatible with any other DOT rated component,it just doesn't mix with the others as it's silicon based.
