A little while ago I bought an old set of elixir brakes. I have ben using a 180mm G2 clean sweep rotor on the front, but when I went to take the pads out today I noticed they have not been making full contact with the rotor and I suspect the adapter supplied with it is 185mm Having a look on the online bike stores today it appears that Avid moved from 185 to 180 on their 2012 range, but I am confused as they have been making 180mm rotors for a while?

The long and short of it is, can I buy a 2012 180mm rotor adapter like this to run an old set of elixirs with a 180mm rotor?

Yours confused

ND

avid are dicks. your probs either missing or got too many washers between the caliper and mount or got the rong dics...... to avoid this problem in future dont buy avids and if u do make sure they are cheap enuf to just throw away when pads are gone or needs bleeding ect.....

u got a spare 40 quid? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=67751

Acidchunks - nothing that is the problem. I think I will take a punt for a fiver for a 180 adapter and see if it fits.

Watsontony - how does buying another 180mm rotor solve the problem? Confused!

ND

p.s not the easiest brakes to bleed but fitting new pads is pretty easy and I am sure if I get the adapters right will get another 1k miles out of them!

bugger. Mines got a "185POST" written on the inside 😕

The adaptor from merlin should be fine, assuming your fork has a post mount fitting you'll be wanting the "180mm Post Front or 160mm Post Rear"

out of interest, are you going to grind down the excess on the pads you have or swap them out for new?

Ordered the 180post mount from Merlin. Going to order new pads. Had som success with Disco Brakes and at a fiver an end it would cost me more to grind them down

Thanks for all your help
