My Avid Elixir CRs that I have on both my bikes have several issues. The pistons over a period of time expand if left to the point where the rotor is jammed on. After prizing them pack and several re-bleeds I find it is totally impossible to remove the constant flow of bubbles from the system. To further add to my suspicions there is a loud sucking of air noise from the lever whilst bleeding. These brakes are almost new on both bikes.

Any ideas?

You've either just not bled them right, or the seal behind the lever has gone. The lever seal does squelch when you bleed them even when it's good.

Next time you bleed them make sure you have the lever reach adjustment set at the mid position, if you have it wide open, lever at max distance from bar then they do suck air, even 1/8th turn closes it.

It took me 4 bleeds of my front brake after shortening the hose to work this out, and stop the calliper from pushing out over time. I was all ready to strip the calliper next go round.

sq225917 thanks a lot that's a very interesting point I will try it. I am definitely bleeding them properly and I have 5 years Avid bleeding experience with no bother!!! Will report back!

I left my hoses full length, rather than cut a piece out, just to avoid this situation. Been bleeding juicy's for years, but wasn't sure if my elixirs would be any different/as easy.

My front house needed more than 10" cutting from it, it was a deathtrap hanging out there.
