Firstly I want to be clear that this is not a case of manufacturer error rather user error!

Current set up ......

Cotic Soul 2010
73mm shell
Middleburn Duo rings 29/42 on RS8 cranks
Dual pull (top and bottom) Deore mech
Square taper UN91 BB 73 x 113
X9 shifter

The problem ......

I just cannot get my front mech set up correctly.

Due to the lack of granny ring the shifter needs to start from the middle ring position.

I wind in the lower adjustment screw to "push" the cage into the middle ring position.

Before the screw is full screwed in the contact it makes on the limit block(?) precludes the mech from shifting into the upper posistion for the outer ring ๐Ÿ‘ฟ You can feel a resistance.

This is all before the shifter is connected!

So I wind back out the adjustment screw and thus the position of the cage and then find once the shifter is connected that there isn't enough movement of the cage to get the mech to shift the chain into the outer ring.

I have temporarily gone back to a 1 x 9 set up with an Uno ring but realize this will be a bit limiting with upcoming riding.

Please ..... any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong or how to rectify this will help stop a huge "toys out of pram" moment!

can you change the BB spacing so that the crank is further in towards the centreline of the frame (move a spacer to the nondrive side?)

or switch to a 108mm BB if there's enough clearance?

I did think Duo's were designed to sit closer to the frame than a triple to reduce Q-factor a bit.

i found with my duo i had to abandon inner limit screw.

set it up so that with no clicks on the cable the mech was held over the middle ring position. set upper limit as normal , click to gear 2 would work as normal and the gear 3 would do nothing

Sadly not an option ๐Ÿ™

So did this require manual manipulation of the cage and feeding through the cable at the same time?

Son "in the granny ring" shifter position you would be in the middle ring?

I ran a duo for sometime on an Inbred 456 - didn't have any problems with it and a 113mm BB.

Does seem odd that the mech won't shift to the outer ring - it would imply that the outer ring is too far out from the frame.

yes and yes

you could try a longer limit screw also - this was my plan but once race season got underway i was racing every weekend - then i sold the bike
