I've just starting to push my riding a bit, small jumps, increasing speed on more technical terrain etc and have begun to think that along will wearing my helmet some further protection might be a good idea. I ride with SPD's so probably don't need shin protection to stop pedal rash! So does anyone have any recommendations for xc/ trail centre riding elbow and knee pads. cheers

+1 for 661 Evo's. Not cheap but you can wear them all day, and not neoprene so they do not get too hot

Elbow pads, see if you can try on some POC Bones- they look excessive but they work better than most soft pads, they're very open and comfortable.

I like the Kyle Strait knees as a combination of price, comfort and protection.

I use 661 Veggies. You don't notice them. Light and unobtrusive and I can testify that they do the trick.

One thing that no-one mentions which I think are invaluable as well are these:

Wait til your ankle gets a good wallop and you'll find this to be the best £9 you ever spent. Give you a bit of ankle support too. And you don't even notice you're wearing them

I have got 661 Kyle straits and they are great. I know they are there, which I think is a good thing!

I've tried a few bits of armour over the years but nothing is as comfy as my POC leg/shins. I looked at their knee only stuff and it seemed to be v. good but I like the shin stuff too 'cos I've been hit too many times by loose rocks flying up. I wrote up a review of it on my site: POC Bone Leg Armour Review

I also got a set of elbow pads, IXIS I think, I'd never heard of them but thebikechain had ordered them in for someone who never came back so i bought them. They're fantastic, really comfy. I've had a couple of falls onto both now and they seem to do their job and are lasting up to the miles so far.

The POC Bone legs are kind of outrageously good but also so expensive. I love mine but I'd struggle to recommend them to most people I think.

Northwind, I can't remember what the official price of them is. I've found other brands don't last for very long though, especially when it gets sweaty a few times a week, so if my POC stuff lives for as long as I think it's going to then it'll probably be worth it.

That's a good point... I use mine rarely but if they were getting constant use I'm sure it'd pay off.
