[#11253918]

Looking to spend around £2K on a gravel bike that's 2x and mudguard compatible. Giant Revolt Advanced 2, sold out. Orro Terra C, sold out. Orbea, sold out. etc etc. Canyon, none available toll October... My old 2005 Kona Jake the Snake is ready for retirement!

Why not just buy an old 1990s MTB. It will have narrow tyres, be fully rigid and have crap brakes. All you need to do is fit drops to it. The grow a beard, you will be set to go 🙂

Genesis Datum or in stock in all sizes on Freewheel.co.uk, seems to tick those boxes albeit a bit over £2k.

Kona Libre 2019 on at £2k on CRC;

I bought one but sent it straight back as the sizing was well out. Lovely bike though and incredibly light as well.

Space Chicken isn't 2x but PX FreeRanger is. Bigger clearance too, though prices have skyrocketed recently

Try looking at some less well known brands the likes of Brother,  Ritchey, or Soma. Everywhere like Canyon and Ribble are totally sold out. Also try you LBS if they are decent one they should have these brands or be able to get them.

@trailwagger 😀

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Fustle are totally out of stock in my size.

Should have mentioned that I was after 700C, which rules out the Kona...

I ended up swapping it for the next size down and for the Kona Sutra LTD. Same price, 2x compatible (though comes as 1x), stacks of rack mounts and 700c. Lovely bike, same price at £2k. What size you looking for?

The Libre does take 700c of course. I put Hunt 4 season wheels and 38mm Gravelking slicks on mine for the summer. Pushes it a bit out of budget, but saved 330g per wheel and makes a good bike even better. Watch the sizing though.

@tuboflard I'm a 56 on most road bikes. That's a M on some brands, L on others. Looking for a top tube of around 560-570 and a reach in the 390s.

@swan0mighty I like the Checkpoint (yours is too big, I'm afraid) except for the fork with the zip tie cable management. It's irrational, but it bugs me that Trek wouldn't be a little more... sophisticated.

@burko73 Great link, thanks.

I found this: https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/fuji-jari-1-1-adventure-road-bike-2020/rp-prod192232 which looks interesting. Anyone ridden one or knows an owner???

@sowler. I like the new Diverge but I think they only get interesting at the £3,500 mark. Too spicy for me!

Unfortunately so. I started out with a base model 2 years ago, loved it. Just recently upgraded to the Comp Carbon. Incredibly capable and comfortable bike. But like you say, a little pricey. No new stock of some models till December now!!

Like the look of https://www.paulscycles.co.uk/4662/products/cube-nuroad-sl-gravel-adventure-bike-2020-titaniumorange.aspx , shame it's limited to 40mm tyres without guards, could have sworn the older generation Nuroads could do 45mm.
