I have some 2012 Sektor U-turns that I've been using on my Orange 5 at 140mm. I never use the travel adjust so wondered if I'd be better off with fixed 140mm fork with better damping?
Mine are 1 1/8 so I'd get tapered too.
Is this something worthwhile doing?
I looked into this, for weight savings/anti-complications.
It wasn't worth doing on my coil u-turns. The adjustment is just a large plastic screw thread which winds up or down the spring. It doesn't impede the motion of the fork at all, nor did it weigh anything significant. Only complication was that it would wind up or down the spring of its own accord, so I jammed the crown adjuster solid with a washer to prevent it turning.
I can't speak for the air u-turns, not sure how they adjust the travel.
These are 110-150 coils but I think I'd opt for an air fork if I do change.
It seems simpler to sell my forks and by some fixed.
I know in terms of Fox the fixed travel ones are plusher than the Talas ones which seem to be notorious for not being that sensitively smaller bumps.
What sort of budget were you looking at spending? New forks just seem crazy money these days.
I'd look at second hand to be honest.
I think taking advantage of my first frame with a tapered headset is pushing me in this direction.
Budget is probably about £300 max. Maybe some revs from On One as they are new.
