Answer is definately no. You could go with flat bars or mtfu.

You could put some bullhorn bars on and go fixie, buy some rapha gear and carry a manbag.

I use them and with risers and ergo grips

DONK from here once commented , when I was hanging my helemt from them, that he finally uderstood why I had them.

I dont have them on the singlespeed though but keep meaning to get some

You might think it's a niche and all about individuality, the truth is you need to fit into one of the STRICT sub-niches or even those people who pretend to like you at the moment will realise no-one else does and will shun you FOREVER.

ebay always has a selection of retro bar ends and they often arrive in brown envelopes ,, shh dont tell anyone but my singlespeed bike may have a set of these,,,

An emphatic YES! I have a silly-wide carbon riser bar cos you can't get wide flat carbon bars. I am also guilty of HUGE Ergon bar ends that enable me to get my whole hands around.

I don't have a beard ... but I do have curly hair ... and really couldn't care less what I or my bike look like 😉

I rode them on mine for a season before it was pointed out to me 🙁
I always thought they looked kinda gay on risers though, after a few weeks buffing it without you'll be fine, just get wide bars

Do what works for you, instead of seeking approval!

If anybody dares to tell you it is wrong to have bar ends on risers, impale them on said bar ends and have them as a trophy. I have risers, bar ends and a really bad goatie beard and couldn't care what anybody thinks about me. Do your own thing, you don't need permission from anyone.

pete, i have some uber rare ultra light bar end jobbo thingies off the voodoo race bike that'll go lovely with the rest of your ss build.(free to you matey) Alternatively get some salsa pro moto flat bars as they are ****in huge (wider than a lot of risers) and give plenty of grunt on the front end (as used on the green machine) 😀

Seconded on the Salsas: I have them on my Moto Rapido and can't fault them 😀

Barend advantages:
1.hand protection - saved me numerous tree/rock strikes over the years
2.bar protection - need to turn your bike upsidedown? bar ends protect everything on the bars
3.climbing hand position - much better when honking up a hill

Disadvantages:
1.maybe a few grams of weight

Ignore the fashion victim sados - if they work for you then use them.

Bar ends, risers, a beard and lycra.
You can't get any cooler. 8)

I'd go with the Marys instead, it's actually quite surprising how much of a difference they make. I feel that I can move from seated to standing in a very fluid motion with them on my SS. They're also very very comfortable once you're used to them.

However, they're pish descending or when the going gets technical.

I gave up with barends about ten years ago when one got caught in some gorse at about twenty mph. I ended up in a ditch with some cracked ribs!

They may be big and funny but they aren't clever. Get h bars if you mist have something. Risers
on their own should be enough for you though.

I have erogon grips with inbuilt bar ends on my susser with low rise bars decided after 5 hours in the saddle comfort was well worth the ribbing!!!

I have small bar ends on very low riser bars ... but only on my single ... really helps getting up the climbs

Too much freaking fashion in our sport. I've gone peakless on my helmet (roadie style) and will be fitting some old Onza CWA bar ends on my riser bars soon. Sod the fashionistas who dictate the style, I'm getting too old for that, I just want practicality.

bet its not as niche as me putting bar ends inboard of the brakes and shifters, in a TTstyle, as somewhere to put my hands on long road/fire road slogs.

The big block on the handlebars was an attempt at fitting a camera to my bike. It just filmed everything upside down, otherwise okay
Apologies for the saddle bag though ..
And no, the bottle nozzle didn't get muddy, the mudguard [b]just[/b] covered it from spray

EDIT: just noticed this was taken after I'd moved the bar ends back to outside the brake levers/shifters and just inside the grips ..

Marys look more 'normal' (less wierd) than H-bars, especially as H-bars have a pronounced rize to them

On 750mm wide low risers,massive leverage but by christ they make my wrists ache on big rides-just noy enough sweep for the width.If salsa did their 17 degree sweep bars in 700mm+ I'd be chuffed to ****.
Or I might try drops........

I've dipped my toes by purchasing a SS and its riser bar will be fitted with Bar ends.
