What are the best free apps for iPhone/Apple Watch to track distance, elevation gain and time?  I don’t need route planning or anything like that, just the basic numbers. Thanks.

Sounds just like what I use Strava for. Dunno if there's a apple watch app though, I don't own one.

Can't you just start an outdoor cycling workout on Apple Watch, job done?

Strava Apple Watch App

You'll never guess how I found it.

I don't use Strava and was looking for something similar a couple of years ago. I settled on myTracks for logging as it was the first I tried that worked well without being inaccurate, a major battery drain or crashing mid-ride. It's never missed a beat and runs in the background without using much battery (so e.g. on a 6 hour ride logging with myTracks and navigating using OSMaps I'll still have more than 60% battery on an iPhone 14). It can be used for free or with a subscription (£5 p.a.). The only catch with the free version is some limitations on viewing/exporting data.

On a similar note. Has anyone found a decent app for iPhone that replicates a bike computer. I have an old phone that I could use rather than buying yet another device

Strava again?

Can't recall if you can customize the screen but the basic recording screen shows speed, distance, etc.

OP: I previously used Strava but found it pretty inaccurate at recording. I now use Wahoo, which is still free and more accurate in terms of GPS, and then upload to Strava. But it's swings and roundabouts I suppose - more accurate/ more faff
