Should it freewheel easily or do the cranks rotate when it is being pushed by hand? jys feels like a lot of resistance like a mucky freehub

Can't remember on a nexus, been awhile since I've seen one, but my rohloff rotates the pedals when being pushed. The seals cause slight drag and is totally normal.

Had one that is now on my sil's commuter. Don't remember it being especially draggy freewheeling. Bit draggier pedalling than an Alfine but pretty bomb proof (came on a bike I bought in Denmark - they were very popular over there when the early Alfine/ Nexus 8 had a bad reputation for corroding the bearing race). Can you take out and clean/ dunk the inner cartridge like an 8 speed?

I think you can do it just like an 8-speed. I used a 90wt EP Gear oil and it was too thick and draggy. ATF has been much better.

I had one on my old cargo bike for years. Used to have to push it round the odd cheeky path, the pedals wouldn't turn by themselves when moving at walking pace.

If it's anything like my the Alfines I've owned then it'll act differently depending on which gear you're in, also depends on what BB and chain you have too.

Had a Nexus 7 years ago. It was bonkers draggy in some gears.

Nexus 8 never had this problem - or 3 for that matter.

Probably no help but my Nexus 4 doesn't rotate the cranks when I push it.
