If so, how you finding it? Wear, gear changes, majorly noticable difference on the climbs compared to a 11-36?
Cheers for any responses....
Noisy for the first 100 or so miles. Seems to have settled down now.
I have a one ride old one, taken off B-in-Law's bike (needs 2x10 apparently) - he'll be wanting to move it on? Can't review it, but he thought it was fine.
Just bought one today from Charlie the Bikemonger
Will fit it when it arrives and give it a go.
Had one for about 70 miles so far, all good so far.
Had one for a few months; works a treat!
Excellent.
Have had mine for about three months also, haven't regretted it. Gear changes are indistinguishable from XT, the low range is a huge bonus.
Stuck one on my 5 yesterday, quick tweak of the b screw was all that was required fitting wise. Shifting is good, 42T makes a noticeable difference to climbing, I can sit and spin which I think the 5 prefers. Boxelder - I'd be interested in the cassette if the OP isn't ๐
Cheers for the replies. Think I'll get one. I want to be able to spin quicker and lighter on the climbs but don't want to go back to 2x10....@boxelder ygm.
Will this fit on a 9/10 speed XT freehub? Also would a medium cage (GS) 10 speed SLX rear mech work OK?
I'm running an 11/40 with the wider range Zee rear mech on a 1x10 set-up. Initially the shifting - with a Saint 10-speed shifter - was awful even with the B-screw backed right in, particularly on the bigger cogs. Just fitted a Rad R mech cage and it's hugely better, as good or better than the Shimano XT 11-36 it replaced. Bear in mind that the original cage on the Zee is quite short.

Yes it'll fit, though you may need a slightly longer chain. No idea how it'll shift with the SLX mech, but if you try it and it doesn't work, the Rad R seems to be an effective - if expensive- solution. Mine's a nice green colour too...
Mine's been pretty good all winter. 11-42 on a medium SLX mech - I had to put the b screw all the way in to clear it, but it does work with no modification. I would say that shifting was marginally less slick than an XT cassette, especially for the biggest cogs. But really, for the extra range and low cost I can't complain.
Been using 3+ months, got 32t oval front 11/42cassette with medium derailour.
B screw wound in, works consistently, smooth. Fitted with new sram chain, only took one link off. I do notice clutch does not work in lowest gear, think it is out of working range.Fine on rest.
Unsure if i would buy again, cheaper to get 30t chainring with shimano 36t cassette. Same gear range.

Its not the same range at all. You would need a 28T chainring to get a similar lowest gear and then you are missing out a lot on the top gear (would be like having 13 as your smallest sprocket) or if you went 30 you would be losing out a little either end and it would be like having a 12-40 cassette with a 32T ring.
I run a 30 - on my big mountain bike and you definitely miss the top range
Even on the flat I am in 10 th gear and its a 30 lb + bike
I will probably just get a 32 next time and walk more climbs
I'd second what junkyard said - I'm running a 11-40 Sunrace with a 30T NW Raceface ring and you def lose out on the DHs and even road flat sections - you can only go so fast using this combo.
Mx 42 tooth with a 34 ring here, did have a 30 but any road linking sections, fire roads etc were a pita. Missing a little bit at the Spinny end but only maybe 1% of time on the bike so not too bothered. Shifting not as good as shimano but perfectly adequate. Done about 250_300 miles on it? Well happy with it.
Think I've done about 600 km and 10000m on it. Reversed b screw, xt gs cage mech, kmc TiN chain. Shifts ok. It's the perfect range with a AB 34t oval up front. Nicely spinny on the way up steep climbs but plenty of top range for smoother descents
First ride today, seems to be working fine. Perhaps more prone to the chain slipping down the gears when backpedalling than the previous xt+expander but it might be setup.
That's with a rad cage mech
Works well for me using the existing XT cage etc. Shifting is very good using an otherwise full XT setup, although the big jump onto the 42t seem like a bit of a big step to me.
I use one on my cross bike, 44t narrow wide on the front and a medium cage x7 clutch mech.
Shifting is worked perfectly for the dirty driver and continues to do so for the daily commute and various wonder where that goes? Trails in the woods.
Anyone tried one with a GoatLink?
Edit: Thinking of using an 11-42 one with a medium cage mech (probably XT) and wondered if a GL would be worth trying.
I'm running one with the road link/tanpan with a GS xt clutch and Ultegra shifters on the crosser. Works a treat.
