After changing some bits about on my HT I have a spare 34T TT ring, and an itch to fit it to my bouncy bike which currently has 1x8 with a Tiagra mech/Cassette and a very effective but heavy and noisy chain device, I can't really be arsed/afford to change the rest of the drivetrain so how much will I die and/or drop the chain?

I ran a 62t TT ring up front for a while on my commuter, 1x8 setup and the chain didn't drop, however I didn't venture off road very much.
I'd be tempted to get a clutch mech just to be on the safe side, the Zee mech works with sram 8sp shifters. 😉
