Just looking at my options for tarting up a frame.
It's all stripped down, and I'm 99% decided on getting it powdercoated (although slightly worried about getting a colour match - it's a Candy Apple Red Genesis Altitude).
That nice man Binners has designed the replacement decals for it and I'll get them done at Vizual Impact in Brizzle.
So, assuming I get it coated and then put the decals on myself, I'm thinking of then putting a coat of lacquer on the lot. Anyone else done it? If so, what did you use, how did it go and how does it look?
Dont do it, powdercoating is a good solid finish that doesnt need laquering. And it'll probably look funny laquered.
I wouldnt do it either. Lacquering is the hardest part of painting, not easy to do well but very easy to mess up!
Just decals on top of the powdercoat should be fine, apply very carefully with everything stupidly clean.
Hey there sweet stuff X. I wouldn't bother personally. As above and lacquer looks crap after a while when chipped and you cant buff up with T cut. The lacquer you use has to be compatible with the vinyl of the decals or they melt before your eyes and ruin the whole day and lastly, stop being a tart. Helitape over them if you must darling. Easy and fafless option. Use 3m or good stuff though otherwise it may yellow with uv. Oh and don't get that wrong otherwise your nice new decals will be coming back off with the badly placed tape. Luv luv luv XXX
Okee doke, you've convinced me.
I want a shiny bike though, can powdercoat be shiny?
Powder coat shiny yarp.
Good stuff ๐
I asked a similar question a while back - The consensus was to just get good vinyl stickers and leave it at that.....
(though I never got round to spraying the frame anyway)!
