Thinking of giving it a go as I don't like the dark blue of my fox forks.

Will they chip like mad?

No, mine have been fine - RS Revelations painted with plastikote black satin (sounds 'interesting' ๐Ÿ™‚ ).

Make sure you give them a very good rub with fine wet/dry or similar beforehand and ensure they're degreased.

Did you completely take them to bits or just mask them off?

And is 'plasticoat' better than just a tin of car paint?

Yes, removed everything (including wiper seals) so that it was just the fork lowers, masked off the holes where the stanchions go with newspaper and sprayed away.

I reckon that plastikote seems more durable to chipping than car paints.

the plasticote has a little bit more flexability in it over car paint, both are fine but as said the preperation is the key to it! Fully degreased, sanded back and cleaned up with panelwipe/white spirit/thinners prior to spraying and make sure yo ugive the tins a Really good shake!

the Most important thing to remember is Not to rush them! many thin coats is much better than fewer thick ones!

couple of things ive sprayed int he past in a rush have looked great but ended up with a very nice finger print impression in them due to not leaving them long enough to harden loL!

is the rule of 6 p's!
Proper Preperation Prevents P### Poor Performance! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sme clear lacquer over the finished painted for with the new stickers fitted will help make the finish more durable.

Thanks for the advice. Not sure how brave I am regarding stripping the forks.

I didnt strip mine when i sprayed them but i did mask the seals and stantions very carefully, you can get a very thin masking tape known as 'fine line' tape which makes masking a lot easier in tight spaces. I used normal 2pack car paint but ive got proper spraying equipment which helps. The only problem is that its tricky to get the part of the arch thats next to the stantions without putting the paint on too thick.
As above the prep work is important to get right.

Spelt Plasti-kote and you can get it in Wilko's or B&Q. Nowt fancy.

Did my fork crown and dropouts with it, and a handlebar, and it's been good.
