Give us a clue - is there supposed to be something wrong with it?
What's the problem with it when it's built? Does it bind or skip? One of the pawls' ends look a bit chewed up, unless it's just the photo.
What's wrong with it? Skipping?
The pawl teeth don't look as sharp as they might but that may be the photo.
Absolutely no engagement at all. Trying to pedal forward is just like pedalling backwards. Happened with absolutely no warning signs at all.
My first Tesla that was warrantied looked perfect, even the grease looked like new. But it just spun without drive when you put your foot down. If it's less than 2 yrs old, you should be fine.
Bought it in summer 2013, but has only been used since August last year...
My guesses would be that it's either the teeth having rounded off the pawls so they don't engage (and the rounding would accelerate as they started to go, so might be why it quickly stopped working) and/or the leaf springs aren't as springy as they used to be so aren't forcing the pawls onto the drive ring as they should. Can you check the springs to see how enthusiastic they are?
Every pawl is worn, they should have sharp razor edges!
Guessing then they shouldn't really look like that after only 8 months (2 or 3 25km rides a week, with careful cleaning and maintenance)?
Have a look at the threads about circus monkey hubs (HDW2), they have a similar engagement system that was prone to problems with ratchey teeth wearing the hub shell and mashing the pawls.
yes edges look very worn, should be easy to replace though
I couldn't find anything on the tesla but it looks like the nukeproof generator is the same hub? In which case, here's a pic of some fresh pawls

I wouldn't say sharp edged but you can see the difference
Nothing to do with the pawls - the ring they sit in, in the hub shell is damaged and is spinning = no drive

Any way for me to verify this? Can't make the pawl ring spin maunally, and obviously can't see what is going on once the axle is back in.
I know the 'mk1' Teslas had a rep for cracking, but I can't see any damage to the hub shell on visual inspection.
How far did you have to walk home?

There appears to be no separate ring in the hubshell?
Remove 2 pawls opposite each other and put a pin spanner or some heavy duty circlip pliers in and see if it turns inside the hub.
Trying to pedal forward is just like pedalling backwards.
Is it clicking when you pedal?
Clicking would indicate slipping pawls.
Silence could indicate the support ring is rotating.

Started from Hope intending to go Roman Road, Jaggers, Chapel Gate, Rushup, Roych Clough, Mount Famine, Jacob's Ladder, Hollins Cross, Cavedale.
The hub went at the start of the climb just after the Roych Descent...
Hobbled back to Edale walking the ups, scooting the flat bits, and freewheeling the downs (learned a fair bit about conserving momentum and pumping EVERY little dip). Luckily at that point one of my riding mates took my keys and span back to Hope to collect my van for me while I sat and ate a bacon and egg roll!
So still can't tick Cavedale off my list of Peaks trails to ride...

Doesn't click so much as 'grind', but moves quite freely...
These are a bit notorious for wearing out the pawls and the ratchet ring in the freehub body.
Not a lot you can do about it, other than replace them both.
Sometimes too much grease in the freehub has the same effect as it stops the pawls being pushed-out smoothly by the spring.
If you bought it summer 2013, thats less than 2 yrs, which is Superstars warranty, so get it sent in soonest.
Don't have the technical expertise to be able to offer an informed (or even uninformed) opinion. However, I recently sent a Tesla hub back to Superstar under warranty, in its case the freewheel wasn't working properly and the hub kept engaging and dropping the chain. Very annoying.
Superstar have told me it'll be two weeks before they can even look at it such is the amount of warranty issues they're currently dealing with ๐ฏ
Can't get them on the phone either.
Lesson learned. Next time I'll pay the extra money and buy Hope...
It is indeed identical to my early generation Nukeproof rear hub that gave up in exactly the same rapid fashion......only thing with mine was the the pawl loving surfaces on mine were completely worn away....albeit after 12 months....I too have paid the extra since then for Hope service/reliability.
I lost all drive on my trizoid freehub, there's a circlip type thing which goes around the Pawls keeping them
In place, mine had snapped so obviously not holding the Pawls in place resulting in no drive. Emailed with photos, sent off on Wednesday, received back on Friday morning FOC

I'd hate to see your neglected parts, that looks shit to me!
