Anyone running a Oneup V3 dropper?

I've had a few rides on mine now and it's really hard to get it to move initially, mid way through the travel it's not so bad and seems really sensitive to seat clamp torque and pretty slow to return. Using a Shimano dropper lever with it.

I'm hoping the bushings are just new and needing worn in, anyone else with any experience?

One ride on on mine, not noticed while riding but by hand it is stiff off the top. V3 lever.

The oem dropper on my Bird I can push down with my thumb. The oneup needs a palm and the bike suspension compresses before the dropper moves.

It does bang the top when returning, I'll probably drop the pressure a bit.

Watching with interest as I fancied a V3.

I’ll probably drop the pressure a bit.

Isn't the V3 a fully sealed non adjustable cartridge?

I've never had a dropper that can be pushed down with a thumb, they always require a full hand and some effort. If the friction changes depending on where in the travel you are, it suggests your seat clamp is too tight. Are you using friction paste?

I have one, not found any issues like that. is your lever pulling enough cable to fully disengage the mechanism?

Oh indeed it is. Nitrogen filled and sealed for life.

Sounds the same as the v2. Fully inserted 2-3nm on the seat clamp and it wouldn’t raise for me. Same with a replacement v2 I was sent.

Not the only issues with the One Up post either. Pack under the collar with grease and after a ride it’s all pushed up under the seat clamp. Even with the new SKF seal, in fact seems worse than the original seal.

Also initial lever push is hard, then loosens up. Once the bike is left for 24hrs it’s stiff again. Same with 3 levers I’ve tried. WT, One Up and currently Shimano MT800.

Just been messing round with it and somethings not right, the cable pull is fine and even out of the bike the return is slow with a soft top out, starts quicker then slows before full extension. I unscrewed the top cap and slid the top bush up and cycled the post a few times and it definitely takes less force to move and returns at a speed closer to the vids I've seen. And it is filthy inside, even feels gritty (after 3 rides)

I got a 210mm V3 as a warranty replacement for a six week old V2 that had something wrong with it from the factory - absolutely no complaints about customer service, by the way. They were really quick and helpful, so I'll be buying more posts from them in future.

V3 sealing seems far better (It was an issue on my other V2) and I've noticed no problems at all with the actuation. I did replace the inner and outer with the new post, and it's connected to an OEM Bontrager lever. I've been running it since May, mostly in the Surrey Hills where it's used a couple of times a week, plus BPW, the Lakes and a trip to the Alps in the summer. Hasn't needed any tweakage or servicing and hasn't skipped a beat. It seems to feel and last like a Brand-X - which is a good thing as they were equally easy on the service intervals

In the past I've noticed slow actuation on the V2 if I overtightened the seat clamp. I use Fibergrip on every post I install and check that every six months or so. another V2 for another bike (180mm) also needed a clean / extra grease fairly regularly compared to the V3 = although we're not out of summer yet.

Got one from merlin and I'm underwhelmed to say the least...mine feels like it's been greased with sand from new and the remotes are garbage .

Only had 3 rides on it but there not exactly smooth feel cheap too

I got one on my new bike and I also find I have to really push the lever hard and pretty much bounce on it to make it drop. It's smooth when it's down and coming back up is fine but I'm really not impressed with it. Will change it at some point.

Glad I bought the V2 ( at a hefty discount) now , not all newer versions are better it seems.

Hmmm disappointing. Have had a v2 before and was never impressed with how quickly it developed play and how often it needed maintenance. Swapped it out for a wolftooth which has just hit its service interval but no worries so far. Want to fit a longer post to my new bike and because of short overall length I was thinking the v3 one up in the hope it had improved but doesn’t sound like that’s the case.

I'm not alone then. I've got a Bikeyoke revive on one bike that is flawless. Just got a new bike with a V3 post and, as above, really quite hard to get it to move. Big push on the lever and big push down from my bahookie. Not impressed.

I've got a v3, the issues above sound familiar although I don't have a reference to compare because it's my first dropper. Mine is 210 and pretty slammed in the frame so I assumed it was due to cable routing being a bit tight or me installing incorrectly.

* It does take a bit of effort before it moves, being central on the saddle and applying the force directly in line with the post helps a lot

* If you half press the lever the return sounds weird, almost like it's grinding. Push a bit more and it's smooth

* The lever feel is a bit squishy and I have to push quite a lot to get the saddle to move, I have had a hope lever in my basket for a while which I thought may help with lever feel bit haven't bought yet. (Might just buy it anyway at some point for the bling)

Overall, it hasn't been annoying enough for me to replace or get too cross with it, but has some quirks.

This. Have the experience with my V2. Very sensitive to how tight the collar is.

I have to store the bike with the saddle half way down and it always needs pressing down to initiate it into action.

Recently had it serviced as it wasn't returning and it's now much better.

The V2 version is still on offer at Leisurelakes - https://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/parts/seatposts/oneup-dropper-seatpost-v2-black__325682 I’ve been very happy with mine, clean and grease minimally at the 25 hour mark and I’ve found that if it’s operation has slowed then a small tweak on the cable sorts it. I do protect it from backwheel spray with a (Shimano) Pro protector that fixes with velcro.

I've got 2 V2's and they've both been faultless so far. One of them has just developed a bit of up-and-down play (after 3 years) which is annoying but hopefully it's a DIY fix.

Any tips welcome.

Up/down play...

The cartridge is secured to the upper tube with a threaded nut/cap under the seat clamp. It can work loose.

Pop off the saddle, tighten the silver nut with needle nose pliers.

This stopped up/down on mine. Fingers crossed...

Thanks for that. Took 5 minutes and totally fixed it! I love how basic these things are. A full service takes no time at all.

Happily back to 2 fully functional V2's.

Can't justify a V3 yet.

Interesting to know about issues with the V3.

My V2 has been faultless for the past 3 years (albeit serviced / lubes regularly). It does take a bit of force to get it moving with the V3 lever when off the bike but when riding its not noticeable.

Strange that they moved to a sealed cartridge for the V3. I really like the fact that with the V2, you can adjust the return speed by tuning the cartridge air pressure with a shock pump.

Mine sounds a bit metallic going down, or maybe it's oil being forced though a small place.

Yes. Tip of the paddle needs to move 25mm to get it moving freely, vs. 15mm on my Bird lever. It moves about 5mm before even pulling the cable, that much brings the cable tight against a cam under the lever. The amount of cable pull is 7-8mm on both. The wheel which pulls the cable underneath the Bird one is offset mounted which I guess helps too. Length of lever tip to the pivot is 60mm OneUp, 50mm Bird. I guess it all adds up.

Just tried a lever swap. V3 post, Bird lever. It's still a long throw and noticeably more force required. So the problem is the post not the lever.

It's oil on mine. Goes away if you press the lever all the way to the end.

Cheers, missed this when I first wrote above!

I’ve got a V3 and it’s fine.

I tend to find getting it set up with cable tension quite fiddly but once it’s all put together it works.

Side to side play in mine after only 3 (admittedly long) rides. Think that TFTuned may be getting a BikeYoke order from me as they are 25% at the moment. Anyone want to buy a 210mm OneUp V3 post? ?

It moves about 5mm before even pulling the cable, that much brings the cable tight against a cam under the lever.

Sorted this using the barrel adjuster. Couldn't get that last 1-2mm right while clamping the cable.

That was a tip from OneUp support. I didn't even realise dropper levers had barrel adjusters.

A little update from me, took the post apart and cleaned/re greased it. the lower bushes seem to be causing the problems even without the cartridge in its hard to get the upper to slide.

Going to nurse it through this weekend then see what my options are for warranty, I don't know whether to go straight to Oneup or through the shop I bought it.

I put a hope lever on this week - it feels loads more solid than before and no longer "squishy". The lever throw is shorter I think which makes it feel much quicker. Basically started from scratch, made sure the cable routing was good and everything tight so possible there was an issue with routing before as well.

Anyway, quite happy with the dropper now. Hope your issues get resolved racingsnail.

New dropper from Oneup arrived today and what a difference! Compresses easily, moves smooth and returns quick with a thunk definitely know its a full extension now, even the lever action is lighter.

Contacted the shop I ordered from about a warranty and they said I could send it back to them and they would deal with it but it would be quicker if I deal directly with Oneup. Filled out the warranty form on Saturday and on Monday had email telling me a new post is being sent out. And got a returns label to send back the old post.

Can't fault their customer service, just wish the first dropper had worked like this one.

Happy with it now though.

I've had a Oneup v2 dropper for the past 20 months and regularly serviced it - it's pretty easy to do, and also upgraded to the oversize pins due to side to side wobble.  It has never sagged, unlike other makes of post I have used.  But recently the side to side wobble got so bad despite new oversize pins, that it felt like I could steer the bike round corners with it.  Quick email to One explaining the problem and they have just sent a new v3 post to me.  So have no concerns over their warranty department 🙂

Having countless dropper posts through the workshop for servicing, I can say that the V3's are one of best out there. The doubling up on the bushes, the SKF sealing, and the weight to length stats make these a hot contender for the best dropper on the market.
And you've now experienced first-hand their amazing customer service.

Great to know about the doubling of the bushes and pins.  I was ready to jump to a Bikeyoke from TFT, but the customer service won me over.  I'lll see how it survives the next 12b months or so
