cruzheckler -

let me add some constructive input into this.

I ride a Trance x2 and had the same feeling about the bike as you are currently having. The thing just felt too steep. I'm used to a 63/64 degree h/a on my dh bike granted on an xc bike this would ride like a pig on the climbs etc but i thought I'd atleast try and loose some degrees off the trance.

1st
The off the shelf bike came with 120mm float 32's. I got hold of a set of 15mm tapered FIT 140mm float 32's, at silly cost that I couldn't say no to. In order to run this fork I'd have to run a hope/ canecreek adaptor to enable me to fit the 1.5 lower steerer. This lower cup added 10mm to the stack height. So far i'm 30mm taller in the front. This already transformed the bike and I felt much more confident riding.
2nd
I purchased some offset bushes, well one in fact as the lower doesn't run any reducers so I'm a bit limited in terms of what can be done there. In order to make the greatest difference I went for the 3mm offset. I was again surprised how much a difference in terms of geometry this made. a shorter i-2-i shock with offset bushes makes a bigger inpact than a longer i-2-i shock with offset bushes.
I've ridden the bike a few times since fitting the offset bush and like it. the bb is very low though, I'll measure tonight but its lower than my dh bike and I've had a few pedal strikes, nothing major but more than I usually have.
I'd personally try the offset bush 1st before fitting the angle set.

p.s.

right if i were to have a perfect bike it would be:
120-130mm rear travel
120-140mm front travel
67.5 head angle
73 seat angle
22.5-23" top tube
30.9 seat tube
built up to around 28-29lb
rp23 or dhx5 coil
link actuated single pivot or vpp
1.5" head tube
120mm headtube (max)
73mm bb

Not a million miles from my Hemlock...
