Bump
Have a word with woodsman on here.
Hi Rob, I went to there open day, I test rode the steel and the Ti version and both we're amazing and very light, it's my next bike if I can get the funds. The steel fillet brazed was a work of art, absolutely stunning, and handmade in Sussex, email the guys re: fork, I think they're more suited to 100mm though. There's a 29er on the way too. I think a frame takes approx 5 months from ordering.
It might be worth dropping this guy an email, he's sponsored by Enigma.
Let me know how you get on.
I think Enigma have a full custom build service - Lab? - where they will build you pretty much what you want. And they are just down the road from the in-laws....one day....when I'm feeling very bored, rich and reckless.....)
They are definitely on my wishlist, road or off road, steel or Ti. Had a great chat with them at a Cycle Show a couple of years ago, very approachable, chatty and helpful. Unlike the guys from the Mosquito Bikes stand opposite who completely blanked me.
(It is just possible that the Mosquito guys have a better tuned sensitivity to help them identify tyre-kicking time-wasters though....)
Hopefully I will be soon, phoned up today to ask a couple of questions about their clearance offer frames and ended up giving over my CC details ๐ No confirmation email as promised yet mind!
I spoke to them a while ago and whilst their off the peg frame won't take 120mm there's no problem changing the design to allow 120mm.
Have 120mm on my Ego, its a Ti though so probably not much help! Great frames though and the service from them was first class.
Love it when I can answer a long shot.. makes me feel all special!
I've got a pre-production sample Enigma.. It's Columbus tubing, but welded, not fillet brazed. It's probably the same shape as an Ego, but can't be sure. Either way, it's a lovely bike.. Climbs really stiffly, but has a certain twang when going downhill on rougher stuff; it's much more stable than the Klein it replaced. Goes like shit anyway, and was comfortable as I could want when I did the SDW on it.
I pulled out the travel spacer on my Reba's to see how it handles at 120mm, and I'm going to put it right back where it was...
It's a bit too choppy with 120mm; it makes it messy at low speeds, and the front becomes too unweighted and light on steep climbs. I've found a 10mm travel adjuster at work so was pondering if 110mm might be the answer. I'll prob just put it back to 100 though.
Hope that helps!
Thanks chaps.
