I got a £15 one from B+Q, labelled as a 'shed alarm'.
It works by magnet (placed on door) and sensor (placed on door frame).
Not the most hi-tec, which is why it appeals to me.
Has 'off', 'home' (which IMMEDIATELY alarms when door opened), and 'away' (20 sec delay to allow you to input code and disarm).
I worked on the principle that the only way into the garage is via the door, and whether it's opened 'normally' or forced open, the contacts will break -> alarm sounding.
BTW - it's VERY loud.....
