Been looking around at new bikes in 140mm 150mm range, went to two listed dealers to look at rocky mountain and both had no bikes and not a good word to say about them which shocked me as id always thought of them as a premium brand despite the fact you dont see many.
Both where a bit mmm about the distributor aswell.
Just wondered if anyone rides one, particularly the Altitude or Instinct i comparison with the usual competition of Trek Santa Cruz and the like

My lbs has binned them in favour of Santa Cruz who seem to be “dumping them cheap” lots of this years bikes all over the place atm!!!! They also sell Mondraker. Another lbs dumped them a few years back for reasons you mention ie poor dealer support.
After much deliberation I bought an Altitude, now 3yrs old. I have not ridden anything else so cannot compare different brands. I replaced the original shock pivot for the newer grease port version, saves stripping & cleaning + better wear
No idea why people don’t like them other than like Kona they appeR to be expensive????
I was warned off them by a dealer too, because of the distributer.
I bought something else, after which the RM distributer took over importing them, and sure enough they were terrible, support wise. So no, they might be nice bikes (no idea, couldn't get a test ride) but lack of warrenty support would make me steer well clear. Second hand one maybe where back-up is something of a moot point in most cases
Yeah pretty much what i was told, was the distributor Greenover Sports like it is now.
One dealer said they could get a demo but also said seriously dont bother and place your money elsewhere even if its not in our shop..
All seems really odd....as they get some great reviews on line and look pretty different
I know 2 people that ride Rockys, and both love them. Neither have had any trouble at all.
Love my Rocky , very capable 100mm platform. Fast , controlled and reliable
I sell them, the quality is top notch and paint has lasted better than anything else bar my P7. Ridden the Element for a year as a marathon/fun XC type bike and got on really well with it. If you are looking for Geometron-esk reach measurements they won't be for you, but as well balanced fun mountain bikes they are spot on. Frame and bike pricing is pretty keen stacked up against similar competition.
Support from Greenover has been fantastic, they are a small team but have been really great with anything we have needed. They run their credit terms quite tight, perhaps that's the true root of the other stores moaning 😀 😀
To fair I didn't mean Greenover, didn't know they were doing them now, it was Silverfish when the dealer told me to avoid them
Thanks pigyn...just looked to see where you are...Edinburgh it seems..arghhhhh i was just there last weekend...wish id looked i would have called in....🤔
I've just come off from Two back to back Rockies and both excellent bikes for me.
One had a rear hub issue, repeatedly, which I knew was a weakness on the Blizzard and Greenover were excellent - spoke to their tech guys direct and couldn't have been more helpful :/ I sound like an advert but seriously very impressive.
Had similar levels of service from Scott in the past if that helps as a comparison.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if / when I swap.

I've got a Vertex for racing and Mrs has a Thunderbolt BC Ed. We've had them for a couple of years & used them for stage races etc. with no problems, fun bikes. Can't comment on UK support but common as muck here in Canada. The Instinct is a very capable bike.
I know two shops that sell them since Greenover took them on & both are sailing along nicely with them, I was in one of these shops when a customer came back with a Rocky ebike that had a minor paint defect & the shop manager was singing the praises of how Greenover support the retailer & consumer.
I’ve had to use greenover for warranty on my RM and they were great sent us a spare triangle so could take my bike holiday whilst the replacement one was being painted. When contacted them for other bits not warranty they were fab, dealer support used to be Sergio but that was silverfish days. Will be buying a new RM for self and OH next year.
Thanks all...sounds like the two i spoke two are missing out and must have some other issue...maybe the fault lies is with the shop...
My Instinct is fab, its the previous model and I’d have another RM next, no hesitation.

I wonder if my ETSX and Hammer are still under warranty lol. Had them years and still going strong. I would have loved to buy the ebike but couldn't afford the Rocky so ended up going French.
I’ve a Thunderbolt, so a bit smaller than what’s on your wish list, but it’s a great bike and I’d have another no prob.
Thzt looks smart dezb , Tbh the altitude is probably too much travel for 95% of my rides
Im on 150mm f 140mm rear at the mo....but a bit 29ers curious..
The thunderbolt bc is probably the perfect middle ground really, ride mainly yorkshire dales...lakes..and Co Durham..
I have a 2014 Instinct BC edition, love it. Never had an issue with it so can't comment on dealer support. My neighbour does MTB Leader coaching and knows the importers very well apparently, I wouldn't have far to go if I did have an issue.
One bug bear is that I prefer Shimano over Sram which cost me an extra couple of hundred on top of the £5.5k to buy the bike. Would have another in a heart beat.
My LBS is a Rocky Mountain dealer (4play cycles ,Cockermouth) . They have a few bikes in the shop.
Cheers monkeysfeet..yeah think im going to pop over and visit 4play cycles, they come across as a proper riders type shop on their social media
Ehwhome, Steve and Adam are fantastic guys. And brilliant riders, the help and advice they have given me over the last few years has been superb. They sorted a load of stuff on my Salsa a few weeks ago. You won't go wrong there mate.
I would have one in a heartbeat. Tried one briefly in Whistler. Really nice bike. I've always hankered for one since they first came into the UK. Instinct B.C. edition is definitely on my next bike list along with a Deviate, a Norco and the Trance 29er. The aluminium BC Edition looks particularly nice.
It's funny how you can love some brands and dislike others. I wouldn't touch a Santa Cruz as I had three and broke all of them. The first one was so out of alignment at the back that the 135mm rear end had an extra 8mm of space in it. This was years before you could get anything other than a 135 rear end! I know folk love them but they just leave me cold. Maybe one day I will change my mind. Never say never!😁
so can’t comment on dealer support
Bought mine from Tredz - had a suspected crack in the carbon near the BB and got a replacement front end (all put together by Tredz) within a few weeks. I say suspected, it just looked like one in a photo I took of the serial no., could hardly see it with the naked eye. Also the Reverb was one if the dodgy ones and they replaced the internals pretty rapidly.
That was all early on, no issues since.
