Thinking of peeling back the cover on the sides at the back and taking a little material off, cos it digs into my leg slightly.  It's a Flite SLR, and the side digs into my thighs when I move off the back of the saddle because it's just a flat edge.

I'd be worried about not being able to stick the cover back down again well enough.

This. I've recovered a saddle, and you need to start with a larger piece of leather that you pull tight and trim down. I don't think that there's any way that I could have reused the original cover; it just would have been too small.

Back in the day Selle Italia sold a modified Flite just as you describe. Mine's still going strong after over 20 years, it's on the commuter, yours for an exorbitant retro-taxed sum 🙂

How did you stick the cover to the hull?

TransAlp? Think i've got one of those somewhere. Maybe two.

And just about any high strength contact adhesive will stick the cover on if you get enough overlap underneath. Last one i did i used some sort of carpet/floor glue.

Spray adhesive under the majority of the leather on the main part of the saddle. Then I used contact cement (similar to photo) along the edge, held in place with binder clips until the glue dried.

I have taken a grinder to a Prologo tri saddle - there was a part that didn't like the shape of my ass, so I cut a dip for that bit of me to sink into - worked a treat. Still working a year later. No saddle sores in that spot.
